maybe it is me, but I don't get removing the badges. Anybody that knows car is going to know it is an TL, help me out with that. A PORSCHE is still a Porsche without the 911 on the tail, a Corvette doesn't need anything and you know it is a Corvette, so why remove the TL and ACURA from the car?

Stock exhaust... Aftermarket tips from canadian tire.. $8 bucks each!! I like the look better then the stock tips and the aftermarket tips will do fine until I decide to grab some exhaust for the TL-S...

Just an FYI for those with older TLs, may even apply to everyone...
A long time ago I removed the '3.2 TL' letters from the trunk without any problems. This past weekend, I removed the ACURA letters and found out (the hard way) that the paint under the letters was so different from the rest of the trunk that I couldn't buff it out.
I got the glue residue off without problem and began using rubbing compound to get rid of the 'ghost' of the letters. No luck, I could still see the outline of the letters. So, I tried 1500 grit wet/dry sandpaper. I used plenty of water and checked my progress frequently. Here's a hint, if the water starts to turn the same color as your paint, you've gone through the clear coat! Fortunately, I was only sanding where one letter was and had not sanded outside the outline of the letter. Oh well, I cleaned the trunk and reattached the letters. No more debadging for me, unless I want to do some repainting.

It's a pretty popular product, so you should be able to find it at various places. I just purchased a bottle from Walgreens. You should be able to get it at hardware stores (Home Depot and Menards) and at Walmart and Target.

That was probably the best DIY I've seen. unfortunately i couldn't get the video to work. I get the idea though and will now probably debadge my TL this summer. It's time to start cleaning up the look a little, and with the lights I'm changing, I might as well give her a clean rear. Now if only I could muster the guts to try clear the headlights.......

^ Video is not important ... just get some waxed dental floss ... once the adhesive from behind the lettering is warmed up ... just cut it off with the wax like a saw to wood. 
Back and forth firmly. Then use the Goo Gone to remove the excess adhesive stuck to the paint. Wash with soap because you don't want that stuff on your paint any longer than it has to.
(It might help to use the Goo Gone in a shaded area after you've taken the lettering off.

Its really easy. i just did mines this weekend. actually since im in vegas and the heat made the mounting tape pretty dry and brittle. so i just slowly twisted the letter and it just came right off did not need the hot water. i used something like goo gone after and polished with wax. looks really clean i like it. i cant believe i waited all this time to take the acura off. but its really easy.

Bought how long do you have to heat it for? I figure i'll be using a paint removing heat gun......OR NOT. I'll try the warm water with it in the sun first and if not, then i'll try a regular hairdryer on low.

I took the badging off within a few weeks of picking up the car way back when and they came off easily with just a hair dryer.
The other day I helped my cousin take off the badges on his car and I realized just how important it is to use WAXED dental floss. The other kind kept breaking with us, but we eventually got the badges off.

awesome DIY, got the badge off easily with warm-hot water and waxed dental floss. Then the adhesive crap took a while. I kind of realized that the longer you soak in the Goo Gone, the easier it was to remove the adhesive stuff. I think I let it sit in for 5 min. before touching it, then after I got rid of the big chunks, I put a bit more Goo Gone for and wait for about 8 min. and it came off easily than the first time. remember, WIPE DON'T RUB.

do you think with a 99 that i would have problem with the discolored paint. or was that guy talking about like way older models. I really want to do this, but if it looked bad, then im pretty sure my dad would punch me in the face.

i was worried about the same thing. i think the best thing to do would to remove one letter, like the A in acura and see the color. if it doesnt look bad, take the rest off, if it does put the A back on

what i do after taking the lettering off is open my trunk up all the way, so the badging part is horizontal. then pour the goo gone on and let it soak for 10 mins or so. come back and you can almost just rub that stuff off with your finger
