Question How quiet? 2000 TL vs TL-S

For those of you that have traded up from the 2000 TL to the new TL-S, just how much more quite is it? Both road noise and wind noise.

I was thinking about new tires and shocks for my TL, but now you guys have me thinking
TL-S?!

Besides occasional tire/road noise from bigger bumps, TL-S is just as quiet as '02 TL.
It is quieter than '01 TL.

I actually have an 01 TL and test drove the TL-S and it was louder than my TL. The engine had like this roar noise, kind of like an intake but not as loud.

I just got back from a test drive. The exhaust system makes more noise during acceleration, but I like that You don't hear the exhaust on the freeway.

I think the overall noise level is less than the 2000 TL, but not a whole lot less.

The handling and steering is much better. It felt weird going into turns without the body roll of the 2000 TL. The Nav system was nice too. I should have gotten this on my 2000 TL.

I'm close to paying off the 2000 TL, so it's a little scary thinking about the extra $$ for the TL-S right now, but hey, talk me into it...

I like how you say new tires and shocks or a TL-S! hehe... thats like saying supersize fries or steak dinner.

I have a 2001 and I test drove the 02-S last week and it does seem about the same. I didn't get to take in on the Hwy however so i could not tell the wind noise.

here's a reason for you to trade, cuz you want it.

Also for more handling, and Nav since you didn't get it the first time. Go for it!

Also so you can show it off at our next meet.

I've owned a 2000 TL since last August. I also took a TL-S for a spin last weekend.

Cruising, I could notice a difference in the amount of noise level. They seemed very comparable.

I may be the only person on the forum who feels this way but I did not like the sound of the TL-S under hard acceleration. I thought the exhaust sound was too loud and it sounded more to me like a coarse 4-cylinder than a big, brawny 6-cylinder.

Nevertheless, I would certainly accept delivery of a new TL-S. The acceleration is addictive and I loved the firmer steering and ride.

Thumbs up

I found TL-S to be less nosier than previous model TL when driving on the highway.
When you floor it, you can hear 260-hp engine talking. I like that. Whoever is looking for a quiet car, needs to get themselves something else and forget about
TL-S. No offense ladies, but TL-S is a man's car, you girls wouldn't know how to treat that engine right. Just like we men, don't know how to treat you.

If you want just quietness, get '02 TL.
I drove '01TL and '02TL-S back to back.
At low speed, they are both pretty quiet.
At high speed, '01TL's wind noise is sometimes unbearable. TL-S is much quieter except for road noise when the road isn't too good. Of course, TL-S is going to be noiser at full throttle. There is a reason why you put more horses under the hood.
It really doesn't matter if you get '01 TL, '02 TL or '02 TL-S, they are all quiet enough.

Get the Tl-s if u have the bread. That sweet exhaust note only makes me get a an adrenaline rush. The Tl-S has a lot more potential than the Tl. It benefits much more from mods such as intake, headers, etc.

How??? Did you drive both? 02 TL's are not total redesign. So it can't be quieter than older tl.

"How??? Did you drive both? 02 TL's are not total redesign. So it can't be quieter than older tl."

From Moter Trend Web Site - Future Cars

They claim less road noise from the 2002 TL

"2002 Acura TL: The Acura TL sedan has been treated to over 500 improvements for the 2002 model year, including an edgier front-end appearance. Less obvious are the myriad refinements, such as aerodynamic side mirrors, improved brake feel, reduced road noise, and enhanced radio reception. Standard creature comforts have expanded to include six-disc in-dash CD changer, seat memory, auto-up driver's window, tilt headrests, and 0.8-g-capable cupholder. Best news is the addition of a Type-S model with 260-horsepower, sporty suspension, and minor styling differentiation."

I wonder if it really is that different. aerodynamic mirrors, that and maybe one or 2 other minor improvements are done. At least that's what they list...
I doubt you can notice big difference between them.

Go test drive em both and let me know if 02 tl is indeed MUCH better.
