See there's one thing i really don't get. From what i can tell, people in the US w/ TLs right now w/o navigation living in the northern US should get their TLs in Canada. I mean, depending on the price of the car on the road, cars in general are cheaper in Canada. The MSRP before you add on anything in the US is already more expensive than a TL in Canada on the road. With the American dollar being high compared to the Canadian dollar, you should take advantage of this and go to a Canadian dealership to get the TL type S, unless you really don't care about saving $$$.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think it's an emissions thing.....

What about financing it? Do I have to pay my loan in Canadian dollars? or do I just pay them in US $$ and get a loan from a bank??

Not exactly sure about the financing. However, if you bought a TL right now in the US and bought the exact same one in Canada (w/o nav of course), then the one bought in Canada would be approx. $1000-1500 (US$) cheaper. In addition, the options for the TL (spoiler, trims, etc.) are about 20% cheaper as well, so if you add on all the options, then the TL could come out to be $2000+ cheaper. OH! the most important thing is that the TL type S in Canada is expected to be $38000-$40000 Cdn. The TL type S will once again be alot cheaper than one in the US going by the base price. If the Tl is $31000 American, then if you get it in Canada, you'll save $3000 American before all taxes, destination charge, license, etc.

From what i know the only place that it wouldn't work in is California, where the emmissions is very strict. However, i do know several people who have done this; one lives in detroit, one in the NY/NJ region (not sure where he lives anymore), and the other lives in chicago. The big "catch" they tell me is that they have to go register the vehicle, get certain tests performed, get licences, etc. (things that American dealers would normally do for you, but instead, you have to do it yourself.)

There's no doubt you can save, but between the travel, wear and tear on a new car, money and effort to get there, plus all the crap you have to do to get it registered and inspected here, it's not worth it. A buddy of mine tried to do this with an Interga Type R and it was such a pain to get all of the paperwork in order that he just bought it here....
