Question How much would you pay for my car??

I've thought about selling my car but don't really know if it's worth it. I have 43,000 miles on the 2002 TL-S that I've had since last April. As most of you know, I've had my tranny replaced 2 times. Other than a few chips on the hood, the car is in flawless condition (knock on wood).

Kelly Blue Book doesn't have numbers for 02 Type Ss. Estimating its value based on a 2001 TL-P w/ 43000 miles, spoiler and premium wheels worth about $22000, I would guess mine w/ spoiler, body-kit, and 17x8 AT Italia Flash wheels (with new BFGoodrich g-Force KDWS 235/45-17 tires) would be worth about $24,000 to $25,000.

I know what I think but what do you think? Do you think it's worth that? What do you think it is worth? What would it be worth if it had a warranty out to 100,000 miles?

Considering you have 2 trannies replaced already, your chances doesn't look too good, even with the extended warranty. Plus you have 43,000 on a 2002 car (that's A LOT!). Oh and I don't think people are going to buy your car with the aftermarket rims on it. IMO, you are better off putting the OEM rims/tires back on if you want to sell it.

I am guessing but you will be lucky breaking $20,000 for your car.

Good luck!

Bailing out RedLined? I am going to wait until next March to see if the 04TL-S has a 6 speed, but I expect to get taken to the cleaners on this car when I trade it/sell it.

Ticks me off, as I modded it to keep it long term, and now, thanks to the tranny, I am going to lose a lot on the thing...

I don't know if I'm bailing out yet or not. I'm looking for a new job. Should that job provide a company car rather than an allowance, I may be forced to sell my TLS. With that being a possibility, I just wanted to see what people think it's worth.

BlackShadow -- why do you think people won't buy it with the rims? I'm ALWAYS receiving compliments on them. I guess it depends on the buyer.

Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with your rims. I am just assuming that an old/older person will buy your car and he/she will not be interested in them. IMO, you can probably get more $$$ selling them to a younger person who are into aftermarket rims.

Good luck again.

how much did extending your warranty to 100,000 miles cost?

I've been holding back on lowering, rims.. etc.. in fear of spending excess money on my car and being stuck with the aftermarket products if the tranny blows and I decide to sell it.

but i have 17000 now and I'm gonna just take the plunge and do a couple of things... my tranny seems ok but i'm paranoid like most of the people on the board...

I am gonna say you will get 22,000 or 23,000 for it if you sell it locally. 43,000 miles is just way to much for a 02. I have a 99 and it has 41,000 . The fact is I dont think people would want a tls with 2 failed trannys.I am not sure if carfax picks that up or not. Good luck on selling it. Oh and if you have navi you will get more maybe at 700 800 more .

Recently traded my TL-S

And the dealer asked my to sign a disclosure stating that the car
1. Never had accident with frame damage
2. No flood damage
3. No repairs above $1000.

I was surprised but it looks like major repair (even mechanical) affects the sale price. BTW I've got around 26K for TL-S Nav 15.9 KMl. You can also get a good idea of resale value from Edmunds/Smart Shopper/real-world-resale values board.

Yep, I know Steve. I talked to him about a trade for an S4 they have on the lot. They gave me $22,000 on trade for my car but bent me over on the price of the S4. I guess so anyway. He gave me the line "Oh, I don't know what the sales price is for the S4. The don't give me that, just the monthly payment." Yeah, right. He's a nice guy and I don't blame him, I'm just not crazy about the dealership.

sorry to say but would you pay $23-25,000 for a used 2002 TLS with 40-45,000 miles and 2 trannies??? or get a 2003 for about $30,000 I'd go with the latter.

When I traded in my TLS (completely stock) I got $26.2 k from the dealer and that was after 2 hours of negotiating. It was also end of the year The salesman never asked whether the transmission had been replaced and I never told him it had been. Who would suspect the transmission would crap out after 10k miles .... on an Acura no less.

You have high miles on your car so you're going to take a hit on resale. Since you have an extended warranty till 100k that will increase your resale a bit.

If you're a capitalist and your conscience will allow you to be one go for the best deal you can get in the private market. you're going to get raped by dealers so don't even go there. (don't go by the $ I got, that was an exception, end of the year etc) Keepin in mind new TLS's can be had for $29,300 I would ask for $25 k in the private market, I think thats reasonable. I would not settle for anythnig less than $24,500.

I suspect it will be gone a few days after listing. You have no idea how hot used TLS's are. Factor in freebies like your wheels and it will be gone in no time.
