how much u guys paid for brakes job?

wonder how much u guys paid for it? i got quot fm dealer for $330 of putting new pads & machine the rotors both just for the rear. sounds too expensive. the price for the oem pads is about $65 & called strauss auto & they only charged $15 per set for surfaced the rotors which means dealer charge $250 for the labor. CRAZY

At $330, you better bend over. The whole job sholn't be more than about $150 total with the pads and machining the rotor.

The difference is probably because that $15 is for turning them OFF the car while the dealer's price ($250) is for turning them ON the car. The "on-the-car" method is usually preferred.

what do u mean by on & off method? fm what i know, take the rotors out & put it onto the machine to surface it. btw, just asked the dealer on how they charged on that. he told me that it's gonna take 2.5 hrs coz they have to take the rotors out & put it onto the machine for an hour. it just does sound right to me as a new pair of oem rotors is only $168. anyway, just bought new pads & i am gonna do it myself & bring rotors to strauss & have them machined it.

For an 02 Type-S, if you don't have a lot of miles, then look for the TSB and get it done under warranty. It sounds to me like a premature brake wear thing. Some dealers would even do it under "goodwill" if you keep at them with a TSB printout.

Here is the text of one TSB:

"01-017 Brake Pedal, Steering Wheel, or Vehicle Vibrates While Braking
VEHICLES AFFECTED

1999–03 3.2TL – ALL

2001–03 3.2CL – ALL

SYMPTOM

When the brakes are applied normally, the driver feels
a pulsing sensation through the brake pedal, the
steering wheel shakes, or the vehicle does not have a
smooth, continuous deceleration feeling.

PROBABLE CAUSE

The front and/or rear brake pads have caused a
variation in the brake disc thickness.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Refinish the front brake discs, and install new brake
pads. Test-drive the vehicle and if necessary, refinish
the rear brake discs and install new brake pads."

thanks all for the input. anyway, i just got it done myself. the rotors seems fine to me & therefore i didn't machine it. plus, i didn't feel any vibration nor any sqeak at all. also, i'm not too worried about the rear as it only counts for 20% of braking. so only cost me $65 & 1.5hrs of work.

You can take the rotors off the car and turn them OR you can can turn them w/o removing them (while still on the car).
