How many with tranny problems; Transmission Recall
filed a complaint with the NHTSA? If the Oddysey's, Pilots, and MDX's are recalled, why shouldn't the TL/CL, and even Accords which share the same tranny be included as well?
The online petition is nice, but who does that get submitted to? If you have a few minutes, whip out your registration, and report your tranny failure to the NHTSA. In light of the recall, maybe they'll be more inclined to act this time around.

I thionk they plan to announce the TL and CL recall after they deal with the thousands of SUVs and Vans (Pilot, Oddesy, MDX) getting in to get new trannies. There would be NO WAY they would put a recall in on 8 different lines of cars at the same time. No one would be able to get to the dealership for a oil change or any service, if the dealership had to give out rentals to every owner of - TLs - CLs - Oddesy - Pilot - MDX - Accord they might as well buy Budget rental car franchise to get the discount!!
I wouldn't be suprised if after the first wave of trannie replacements, the MDX and two others, the next wave would be the other three cars discussed in this thread, the TL, CL and Accord. Fingers crossed!!
But if you are positive that the trannies are the same from the MDX to the TL then it is almost garenteed that we will be next....

Acura Tranny Issues
This is the most important thread on Acura-TL.COM. If everyone sticks together and and continues making formal complaints to Acura and NTHSA, the tranny problem will be taken care of. I am in agreement with `ill*Tl and think Acura doesn't have a fix for the problem yet. They are replacing bad trannys with more bad trannys. In the meantime, we are stuck with expensive, defective cars which have lost considerable value because of this problem and are not dependable to drive. A TL should give you 200,000 trouble free miles but that is not the case with 2nd generation cars.
Acura states that only 2 percent of the trannys are failiing but if you read the posts, you know that figure is pure bull sh!t. I think there is a much higher failure rate and would love to know the actual percentage.
Maybe a good poll to start would be "how many people have not had transmission failures/problems with 2nd generation cars".
Keep the thread alive and let Honda/Acura know your feelings about this problem.

We are getting new Trannies!!!!!!!!!
Lacs21 had he trannie go and when he brought it to the dealership, instead of putting in another "temp fix trannie" the dealer said I will put in one of the newly designed trannies I have recieved (a bunch arrived for the recall of the MDX, Pilot,..... and then they will be used on the TL and CL when their recall gets announced). He said to the guy that he " WILL NOT qualify for the reacll when it DOES get announced " , because he is getting the newly designed one now!! yes!!
The dealer just didn't want to put in another defective trannie and end up takin' it out in a month or two to put in one of the ones in his warehouse! YES YES YES , read his post on this he says the new trannie feels " bullet proof " !! Whoooo Hooooo!!

Wow, this whole thread is like a flashback without the harp music! Can't believe it's still going on.
Reminds me of the early days of the 02TL tranny failures, and most everyone said "Stop worrying, it's not a big deal. You guys are beating your cars"!

We received an extended warranty notice from honda a couple weeks before the tranny failed in my wifes TL-S. It was replaced under the normal warranty but was nice to get an extension on the warranty. Her transmission started slipping, but was intermittent.

Still having problems
Just had to replace my tranny in March 2004. I have a 2003 TL type S with 50,500 miles. They replaced the tranny without any questions. Even now I notice some shifting problems after putting on another 8,000 miles. Just waiting for this one to go. They say if anything goes wrong they will cover any problems at the dealership.

what a shame!!
It sure is a shame what some of you are going through with the trannies. I too am on the road to tranny disaster. I have an '03 TL-S with a mere 4,900 miles on it. It seems like every so often, it goes partially dead and recovers only in time so as not to completely stall out on me. The last major episode was the day before a pre-arbitration inspection. It bucked and jerked hard 3 times, but the day of the test drive/inspection at the dealer, it drove perfect. This crap is really too much!!!! I have a car no one will ride in with me and a car that is a $30,000 nightmare. I leased, so I really feel trapped. I guess the car will have to die on the highway and hope for no injury in order for me to get out of this lemon! Any suggestions, I'm all ears??????????

My 99 TL now has 125,000+ miles. I have not had any tranny problem whatsoever, but this is making me nervous. What are the early signs of this problem? I plan to keep this car as long as I can, but I don't want to get stuck with a car that I can't sell or trade-in due to bad tranny....
I guess, at this high mileage, I would not get a free replacement tranny from Acura/Honda.

my 02 has 45,900 miles on it, and as an acura technician i do most of my own work on my car. I experienced a strange humming noise coming from the undercarriage in febuary of 04, and for the life of me i could not fighure out what was wrong with my car. I thought it was my tranny, so i took the car to Criswell acura where my dad bought it for me used with 25,00k on it in November. turns out it was my whee bearings, and my driver's seat was loose. wierd.......

Well my TL died at 30,000 miles, then the new tranny died immediately and my next tranny just died today at 80,000 miles, however this time I was driving on the highway and the gear changed and it jerked violently. I was scared and now I believe there is a safety issue. I guess I will see what Acura will do. I do not think I will accept the 4th tranny. Let the whining to Acura begin.

Hows this?? my tranny died at 31,500 miles. I took to the dealership and when they replaced it, they said my suspension broke because a bolt and washer was missing. I dont know how the hell that happend because it was fine before it was towed. I had to drive all way back to the dealerships in a shitty ass loaner rsx to see my broken suspension. They later replaced the bolts but had to pay like $50.

Well, you can put me down for ANOTHER tranny. Tranny #2 died today. The dealer even looked at it last week and said it was fine. I went back today and had a tech ride with me to prove it was gone. The thing basically took a dump right out of the lot. It was shifting between 2 and third and 1st.
The D5 lit up the car lurched and pulled and the tech almost shat himself! It was definitely proof enough for him.
Tranny #1 - dead at 15,000
Tranny #2 - dead at 57,000

I'll take another
I just went to lunch and my second tranny went out. First went out at 30,000 the second at 52,000 mi. I am thankful that they extended my warranty when I had the first one replaced. I will log my complaint.

I have an 03' TL-S with navi. My transmission started acting strangely at about 35,000 miles. It would slip and did not shift smoothly. Putting it into reverse - it would sometimes slam and jerk. The dealer offered to replace the transmission with a new one and gave me a rental car. How can I be certain I am getting one of the newly designed transmissions? I just want a reliable car.

Heading to go
try out my third Tranny. Mine went out Friday afternoon and I got a call Monday afternoon saying it was ready. I asked about the warranty and he said the extended 8yr or 100,000 mi. warranty will continue from when my first one was replaced at 30,000mi. I drove a 2004 TX all weekend and that car has a much smoother shifting transmission. There is a huge difference between my 01 3.2 TL and this TX. Not nearly the get up but much smoother to drive. Atleast I'll get my free wash out of the deal. Dont ever by a loaner car.

I was missunderstood what the service consultant said. I talked to the dealer once again about the warranty and he said that the car has a 100,000 mi warranty on the tranny. Meaning if it goes out at 95,000 mi. I will get another new one & it will have a 5,000 mi warranty on that one. I bought an Acura becasue I assumed that it will run for ever and I could put 200,000 mi or more on it. With these tranny problems I will need to get rid of it before it hits 100,000 mi. What a shame.
On the TSX Tranny It sure shifted alot smoother than my 01, TL. Maybe it's because it doesn't have as much get up or maybe it's becasue the three I have had never worked properly.
