How many miles will I be able to go??!!

Hi all. I have a 2003 TL-S that I bought brand new in April, 2003. I already have 85,000 miles!!!!! I had my tranny replaced at 22k miles, when the car was only 7 months old and so far (knock on wood) it has been fine. Do you think I will be able to get 250,000 miles out of my baby??? My plans to by a new car for myself has been delayed since my wife and I have a "bun in the oven" and my wife wants to sell her 2002 Infiniti G20 sport for an SUV of some-sort.

Other than my early tranny problem, I have had no problems with the car. I am religious about my 7,500 mile oil changes and other maintenance (although I no longer go to my Acura dealer becaused they really pissed me off and there is no other dealer close to my home.) The guy that does my work is at a "mom and pop" but he is a certified acura tech. I've also trusted him with my cars over the last 12 years and he has been flawless.

So, what are my chances of 250 - 300k miles? (I surely hope I can make it, as my mom and pop mechanic does work on a fleet of Hyndais that have 300k+ miles!)

-BJ

my dad as a '93 Z71 truck with nearly 200K on the original engine...most cars will run for a long while if you maintain them - much less an Acura, you should be fine, you just may need a new seat soon!

i still have trouble endorsing the 7500 mile oil changes. after 3500 i see what it looks like coming out. i know alot of people do it, but it still brings up flags in my mind.

provided the transmission hold you should definitely get some crazy mileage out of the car though.

I agree with satin. changing your oil at 3500 will make a huge difference. I switched to mobile 1 5w-30 synthetic as well as the "upgraded" oil filters and it made the car run plenty smoother and gave me a cleaner power response all the way across the power band. BIG DIFFERENCE>...

If your changing your oil at 7500, why not move to a synethtic oil (if you havn't already).

The car will probably hold up, but no one can tell you for sure how long your tranny will last. Or how many you'll need to get upto 250k.

My old Honda lasted about 210k miles before it got totalled and it was still running good too. I guess as long as you keep it updated any Honda/Acura should last awhile. As for my TL...I change my oil at every 3k-4k miles and change the transmission fluid between every 12k-15k miles.

How many people are still planning to keep their cars even with all the transmission problems after they pass 100k miles? Who is planning to sell their cars before they hit 100k? I love my TL, but would hate to be paying for a new transmission later on once the warranty expires! I was wondering...how much does it cost for a new transmission installed...that's not covered under warranty?

Agree that the tranny issue well is an issue, but I cant imagine selling a perfectly great car just because I was scared that the tranny will go after the warranty. Face it, most of the trannys that do fail do so early on.

After 100K ANY cars tranny may fail - from Acura to Chevy to Lexus to anything. I think its rediculous to consider selling your car cause of the unknown. If you can make it to 100K on the original one...you probably have a good one, so take care of it like any other car and you will be fine.

It costs something like $3000 for a Acura refurbished tranny.

First of all, see what happens guys when you don't go to the gas station to get a pack of $3 condoms??? This man's whole life has just become a whole lot more expensive because his cheap horny ass did not make that stop.... let this be a lesson to all of you...

Second... It seems that you do a lot of highway driving and I find it feasible to get 250k miles out of that car. Hopefully, you will not run into another tranny problem, but let say you do... $3000 is a small price to pay to get 100k more miles out of a workhorse like that... Good Luck to you....

btw...hopefully the kid looks like your wife..........you slacker..(I mean you have been a member of the forum since 2002, and you only posted 160 times??)

My 89 Accord has 206,000 miles. Engine and trans still good.

Looks like the older the honda is the longer it lasts. :P

I have 181,500 miles on my '00 TL all on synthetic and it still runs like new and sounds like new in every way. It does not burn any oil between 7K mile oil changes, nor leak any. It has been in VTEC (because I like it) over 3,000 times by my rough calculations. So do not worry!!!!

i change mine every 8000 to 10,000 miles (mobil 1 5w30). i have it tested every time and every time the oil results come back with good news. and at that mileage there is plenty oil life left in the oil. my driving is considered very severe (it idles all day long too) and im coming in on 156,000 miles now and it doesnt burn a drop. the engine should outlast the car

Haha!! I guess I should have bought those condoms and YES, I agree, I hope the kid looks more like my wife! As far as my number of posts, hey, I spend most of my time on the road!!!

Also, I have to make a BIG correction. I did not buy car in April, 2003, I bought it in April of 2002!!!!! Woof, that makes a big difference, but it is still a lot of miles! I saw the post from Yankystat saying 85k in 15 months and realized that I had a major typo but it still is 85k in 27 months! (avg. about 3150 miles a month). I don't even have a sales job.... i just have one long ass commute.

Oh and btw..... about the 7500 miles oil changes. I was going to make it more frequent but when my mechanic drains the oil he said that it looks like I could have gone another 7500 miles because it looked so clean. I do plan on switching to synthetic oil but am going to wait until my 100k mile warranty ends.

Then, it looks promising for me. It looks like we are putting miles on at a similar rate. I'm just gonna have to learn to be a little nicer to my car but I just love using the power every once in a while!

Thanks all!
