How long will it last?

I have a 99TL with 93,000 miles. Oil has been changed by Acura every 3000 miles and timing belt replaced. All recommended services have been performed and the transmission fluid changed twice. I have the original transmission and so far, it has performed well. The engine still performs almost better than when it was delivered new. Driving is a mixture of city/suburban and highway.

I am wondering how long this car will last? How many miles might I reasonably expect to get? I love driving the car and have not been able to justify trading it in.
(The factory Bose sound system is superb).

seems like it was well maintained, and will continue to be if you keep it in your possession. i once heard, this engine will outlast the body.

that sound good?

The car is very reliable if it was well maintained and not abused. change the tranny fluid more often if needed.

motor will far outlast the trans. As long as its maintained properly it will easily break 2-3 400k

145,623 Miles if you drive to 145,624 it will die.

Seriously though your engine will be fine and it sounds like you have taken good care of it as long as your tranny doesnt die (which there might be hope for since its a 99) it should run for mnay more years.

As a New Jersey resident, what dealership did you take it to? And how did you go about getting Acura to cover the parts (assuming you have a 99 and past the warranty like me)?

You gotta do a little so you can talk them into it. Just be polite and whine a little.

The warranty was extended to 93 months or 109,000 miles so you have some time left. Even if you go over the limit there are many people here who have gotten their transmissions replaced for free or a reduced price. Take it down and have them check it out. At least this way if it fails after the warranty limits, you've got proof that the car was showing symptoms before it exceeded the warranty limits. Good luck.

3K mile oil changes?!? That's WAY too often! The factory recommends an oil change every 7500 miles with conventional oil. If you're that paranoid about it, use a synthetic and change it at the very least every 6K. Personally I like Royal Purple. I have read some very good oil comparisons and RP beats just about everyone including Mobil 1. Amsoil was the absolute best but it's very expensive.

Oil Change at 3000

My Acura dealer has recommended 3000 and every car that I ever owned, I changed at 3000. Not really paranoia but rather, a relatively inexpensive way to protect an investment. Others may do it at longer intervals but 3000 has worked for me. So I spend about $100 per year for oil changes and have a car that probably will last forever.

I put 304,000 on my 91 Accord if that gives you any indication of how long Honda Motors can last. The engine only had valves adjusted and timing belt / water pump replaced. Engine was never touched internally besides that and ran great at 300K.

Actually read your manual. Honda recommends 7500 mile intervals unless severe use. You could spend half that and still have a car that lasts forever

Don't think I exaggerate when I say 300,000 minimum on everything BUT the tranny. It is not a question of whether it WILL fail, it is a question of WHEN. I am living proof of changing the trans. fluid every 30,000 miles, and it STILL failed at 144,000. For me, that was too soon, with no support from Acura.
And I'm still pissed

300,000 miles or more easily. Start using synthetic oil and change it every 8,000 miles instead of dino oil every 3,000.

mhm im using synthetic and changing it every 8k or so. its that penzoil platinum stuff. usually cost me like 40 bucks or so for 6 quarts but autozone was running a special for 20 bucks with a fram filter ( ) haha. which was thrown in the back of the garage

anyway, i have no problems with the oil. i seafoam right before i change it so it looks kinda runny when i drain it, but still decent. as for tranny, honestly im nervous to even change the fluid. my tranny has been working fine and i just broke 160k miles last week. granted i got the car at 148k and i really dont know if transmission was replaced before or if the previous owner took care of it. it is a 99 tho, so supposedly more reliable. either way cant complain at how it works. all bone stock except for 2 mufflers previous owner had on. auction car, i just dont know the history
