how long does the hid bulbs last....

i was just walking around today and i saw a tl type-s, and WOW it already had its drivers side headlight out???? i thought hid lighting would last for a very long time almost the life of the vehicle.

suppossed to last 300,000 hours? damn, i forgot the number, but a long time.

It is supposed to outlast the life of your car, that's what I heard.
