Question How long do Shocks last when lowered

Almost every post i've read about lowering ur car or springs always says, "shocks will wear out sooner when ur car is lowered." What i want to know is...when u lower ur car, when is a good time to replace the shock...how do you know when to replace them? and the other this is...ppl are saying things about this "chamber" thing when you lower ur car....what is that about..can you just get an alingment to correct that problem...thanks for ur help becuase i'm planning to lower my car tommorow with H&R springs. Some ppl say CT are better than H&R...but is it $100 better, or are they both just the same?

There is no definite answer in terms of time of when to replace the shocks. If you never drive on bumpy roads, the shocks might last a life time even when your car is lowered. On the other hand, your shocks might last 2 years even if its not lowered if you always drive your car on bumpy roads.

When your shocks are worn out, you can feel that the stiffness is gone, the stiffness will basically be the springs, not the shocks. You will know it.

Many people with lowered cars replace their shocks after 3 years not because they were worn out, but because they wanted better performance. So I should say that the life of the shocks should not be a problem if you take it easy on bumpy roads and not pump up the tire too much. The Honda struts basically last a life time under normal conditions with no upgrade. So you shold be fine for a few years before yo will need new shocks.

I replaced my Acura Legend shocks because I wanted performance and the Eibach. And if you want a long lasting shocks, Koni is the only way to go. Tokico, according to many people, do not last long and ended up replacing them with Konis.

Also, if you don't lower your car excessively, you do not need to correct the camber. All you need is an alignment after the installation.

I would prefer H&R because it lowers your car alot, but they are alot softer and quieter than Eibach and Suspension Techniques. I swear that no one like Eibach if they live on bumpy roads. Even my stock Legend sport springs gave me a hard time on bumpy roads, I cannot explain how painful it is after I got my Eibach. I shold of got H&R the first place.

I was told that if you went with the H&R sport springs that you didn't need the kit, if you went with the Race (2.5" drop) you would. Definitely get an alignment afterwards! I debated getting the struts up front since they were in there doing the springs, you would only be out the cost of the struts, but the cost of the struts was fairly substantial, so I opted to see how long the stock will last.

I don't know if this will happen in the TL-S, but I have seen the shocks start to go out on an Accord and an Eclipse... both lowered.

You will really start to notice it if you are going out on interstates and high speed roads that get the car to go up and down alot. I am not sure if you will know what I am talking about... but you will notice that when the car is rebounding.... that it almost feels like if it is starting to float..... not a good feeling at all.

It is hard to describe... but you will definetly know when it happens.
