How long did your original battery last?

I went to the dealer yesterday to have the oil jet installed for the trany recall. They told me that the original OEM battery is not good for much longer.

I am not having any problems at all with it. Are they trying to make some $ off me?

I still have the original battery in my 2002 TL-S since the car was bought in August of 2001.

I want to know how long did your original "Honda" battery last?

Still have my original batt. on my 2000TL as well. No issues yet and the winters are hard on it here. You should be able to tell by the starts(quick vs. hesitating), anyway mine will go soon 5yrs is pushing it.

With your higher temps there, the water in the cell will slowly evaporate then the cell will die I would imagine yours will go soon too.

i still have the original battery in my 1999 TL, but it does not start the car as quick as it used to, and i cant play my sound system for long without the car running cuz it drains the battery real fast and i have to jump it. I will probably get a Optima battery soon.

Got my '99 used, but I know the car was put on the road in October '98 and the original battery was replaced ~December 2003 with approx. 105,000km.

I still have mine in my '02 TL-S. 4 years is not too long. You should get 5-7 years depending on weather and how much you start your car
If it starts fine, I would just wait. SOmetimes they do go suddenly (if plates short out), but usually it will start to get weak and you know it's time. Unless you are worried about getting stranded I would say hold off. Plus the dealer will charge you twice as much.

I still have the original battery in my 2002 TL-S since the car was bought in September of 2001. Basically the same as you. Those Acura techs probably play the stereo while they work on them and drain the battery!

I had mine replaced last year, for a total of 6 years. Not too bad I guess.

Mine was working fine when I replaced it after 4.5 years. I've always felt that after 4 years I've gotten my money's worth out of a battery - especially with the rough winters here. Why wait for it to take a dump on me - a service call probably costs as much as a battery.

Very true statement, the hotter climates reduce the life of car batterys.

might be y my battery is crap. I play stereo for literally 10 minutes with engine off before the car can't start. I have to let it sit for an hour b4 restarting it everytime that happens.

Fully discharging a couple of times isnt that great huh? Kills it much faster ? That might explain why mine is dying. Always leave the radio on too long when detailing the car.

Lead-acid batteries do not like being fully discharged. NiCads do..but they don't get put in cars

How did you guys know your battery was dying? Over the past 3 days my car hasn't started up quite as fast as usual. Today I went to crank it up and the car wouldn't start, and all of the electronics kinda "stuttered" like they wanted to start...but couldn't. Now I can't move/start the car. Any suggestions?

Edit: 2000 3.2TL with 34k miles.

Mine seems to be acting like that too. If you take you vehicle to most places that sell batteries, (i.e Battery Warehouse) they have load tester that can check the voltage @ a load to see how strong your battery is, they can also verify the charging system is working as well. I plan to do this soon.

I just purchased it 21 days ago and called the dealership this morning. They are having it towed back there in a few minutes. They mentioned something about a 30 day window for fixing parts, so I should be covered I would think.

hey guys. Mine is about to crap out on me. I was wondering what was the recommended battery around here? Or should I just get one that meets the specs? They are still covered by autozone

Back from the dead, I have a 99' TL with 76K on it with the original battery in it. Im getting some really slow cranks lately and I'm thinking of just going with another OEM. Or like phaze said what is the battery of choice around here...I can get the OEM online for about $68. But I doubt they can ship that thing, so I need something local, Kragen, Autozone, Sears, Costco, Pep-Boys, etc. thank....

My battery only lasted about 3 years (32K mi). The car would not start after work so I got a jump and made it over to the service department of my dealership about 2 min before they closed. The two guys still on duty just put a new one in and when I asked them how much it was they said: Don't worry about it, we closed the computer down already so just go. I guess they had dates that night or something! Nothing like a free battery!
