How to ID a J35 motor

New here, sorry if this is in the wrong spot.

How do I ID my J35 motor? I recently purchased a JDM J35. It was advertised as a J35A4, 02 to 04 Odyssey, Japan model, etc. It shows up and the intake looks way different. No riser between the runners and plenum. Throttle body different. Looks different from the USA J35A4 I just blew up. On the block it says J35A only. From the looks of it I'd say it was a early model. I can make out the serial number - does anybody know how to decode the serial number? The 7 digit number below the J35A. VIN tag is gone. Letters on the timing belt cover gone. Sales guy said Japanese motors don't go by J35A2, or A3, or A4. I don't believe this.

It's a Honda question but this forum has the best information for what I am doing. Thanks for your help. Ben.

A quick google search reflects the following:

'JDM engines have 4 alpha numeric characters on the top row, not 5 like American'

http://www.vintrack.com/Stolen%20Engine%20Clues.pdf

If you want to 'track' the 'serial number', the above may help?

'TOVA would also like to emphasize here that all JDM engines have only 4 characters in their code regardless of the codes that might be used on their equivalent export counterparts.'

Otherwise,
