how to get rid of squeak from UR crank pulley belt
hey guyz, a local Honda shop installed my UR crank pulley about 2 months ago. I am very happy with the performance but not with the squeaking while idling. I already went back to have them adjust it but it is still the same (still squeaking). It's coming from the belt for the power steering. One of the techs told me I should buy a smaller belt for the power steering by one size. I didn't know if this would cause more strain on the UR crank pulley or not. I don't know if any of you have heard of one of the Accord members (i believe it was an accord member) having their crank pulley just break on them on the highway. Keep in mind, that was the only instance I have heard of. As far as the manual, I'm not sure how tight the belt is suppose to be on either.?
ANY IDEAS? I'm just gettin aggrivated with the squeaking, so any comments/suggestions would be very appreciated.
*have tried searching already. Thanks!

Used Belt - 88 - 121 lbf
New Belt - 165 - 198 lbf
If you installed a new belt, run engine for 5 minutes and readjust to Used belt specs.
Was the crank pulley that broke a UR pulley?

Thanks Mike, is that usually a belt tensioning tool they use to measure that?
Unfortunately, yes it was a UR crank pulley. Be advised the reason for it breaking could have been partially the installer's fault. It was someone from the V6-performance, I will post the link if I find it again. Thanks again.

a note on the crank pulley snapping. The president of UR apparently said that guyz UR crank pulley was defective and less than 5 have been reported defective in the past 8 years. The customer was also fully reimbursed for all fee's, which added to like 800-900 and a set of new pulleys was also sent to the consumer. So thats good to hear that it is not a common problem, but more of very unlikely quality control.

The problem:
underdriving the belt ~ underdrives the steering pump.
Pump is now weaker hence the sound going away when you rev up.
OR
New belt, its ok for it to squeak...but not for 2 months...1month at most.
The solution:
Wait it out
Enjoy, i had the same problem on the same pulley and same car so this is accurate.

No offense to etxxz, but you've already waited 2 months according to your initial message and it's still making noise. Plus others have had new pulleys installed and have not reported this problem. So, I don't think it's normal. Squealing is usually a sign that a belt is slipping. I'd check the tension to make sure it's correct. Just to double check, you used the Gates belts recommended by UR, right?

Ive had my crank pulley on for about 3 months or so and havetn noticed any suqaking. Make sure that you are using the right belts and that everything is set properly. Try getting a different set of belts and see if that gets rid of the problem..

Don't stress too much about the UR crank pulleys breaking. I had a my factory crank pulley disintegrate on me at 18K on my 2003. I wasn't even dogging it. I was in a parking lot and the thing just crumbled and tossed the belts. It was all repaired by my local Acura dealer under warranty and the mechanic stated that the factory OEM Acura pulleys do break on occasion. So I guess the UR ones hold up as well, if not better than stock.
