How do i know my brake pistons are bad?

So my steering wheel started to shake everytime i come to a complete stop. So i got the rotors resurfaced and changed brake pads. Now, i have this noise that Acura dealers would explain as if the brakes weren't correct size for car, so it would move up and down while braking. I took the car back to the place that fixed my brakes to make sure they were the correct pads. Which they were. Now, everytime I come to a stop, there's a thumping noise coming from the brakes. Everything is fine with the brakes, rotors are resurfaced correctly and brake pads are honda pads. Is there a possibility the brake caliper pistons are bad? Is this causing that thumping noise like the pistons are stuck? thanks

Someone's blowing smoke. Calipers don't cause "thumping noises". Loose brake pads, improperly installed shims, or improperly installed rotors cause these problems. I would insist on the shop that did your brake work correcting the problem.

good luck

the calipers making noise is just a guess of where the noise might be coming from. i keep
taking the tires off and can't see if there's any problems. what part are the "shims" ? today, i lifted the front end up and took the driver side tires out to see. placed the car into drive and let it roll. Passenger side just rolled freely, when the driver side had trouble spinning as if the brakes were pressed on. Any opinions?

sounds like a siezed piston, but they dont normally make a thumping noise though.

Are the pads correctly installed in the caliper? Shims install behind pads to reduce squealing. There are also frequently anti-rattle springs that support and suspend the pads in place. A shop manual is needed to understand what parts should be there and where they should be placed.

good luck

thats what i thought it could be. since the piston isn't going back to it's regular position when the brakes aren't pressed on, it is actually braking a bit. it's not really a thumping noise. more like, rattling like something's loose.

If you have a siezed piston in the caliper, the brake pad wear would have been way different between inside and outside pads.

Shops are responsible for their work, take it back!

yeah, i plan to take it back. Just wondering if that seized piston was because of them installing the pads, or is it just cuz of wear and tear after time?

the caliper usually lasts the life of the car. there could of been water in the system that caused it to sieze
