This will not answer your question, however the issue is too important to drop it.
My transmission went few weeks ago. I have not noticed any telltale signs before. It's not that there were none, it's because of my ignorance.
When it finally happened, the car started to jerk violently forward when changing gear from 2 to 3 while in automatic. What's strange that it would not happen every time! Some time it would go smoothly.
Mechanic at the dealership did not have to drive the car at all. He noticed (heard) something strange when he put the car on D5. ??
He pulled the dipstick, smelled the fluid, and declared transmission to be 'fried'. He also said that the tranny would 'slip'...
Could someone answer a question about this?
What does that mean that the transmission 'slips'? Is it something similar to a clutch slipping on a manual transmission when you notice a significant loss of power after changing gears?

if you really want to know if your transmission is going to go......open your door, walk to the back of your car, and if it says acura 3.2TL then it is probably going to go.
seriously, though. when mine went it just started slipping a little bit and then within a couple of days it was taking 30-45 seconds for shifts.

Have AAMCO check out your transmission...they did a good job on my car and didn't screw me either.
If you go to their website www.aamco.com you can print a cupon for a free transmission check.
