how bad is 89 octane gas?
i left my car here with my roommate when i went home to taiwan, and one of them decided to take my car out almost everyday wifout my permission (i said he could take it to close places to do like grocery shoppin or sumfing). well anywayz he's also a cheap ba$tard, and added 89 octane gas to my car.
now how bad is this for my car? is my engine permanently $crewed? my car probably ran on 89 gas for at least a couple hundred miles...maybe even up to 1000...and from past posts, people have said that when u add 89 gas, ur engine adapts to it, and the car's performace is lowered. is this an irreversible process? should i just add 89 gas from now on? or should i continue adding 91, and my car will run as fine as it did before?
oh and of course, that roommate got kicked out of our apartment already...

Here is some reading...

Basically unless you are hearing pinging you should be ok. So like above stated, don't drive hard. Just take her out for a nice long easy drive to use up the 89 octane and get back to higher grade
I may be wrong but I believe the underperformance is only going to happen while you have the 89 octane as the engine adjusts the timing for anti-knock, causing less gas mileage and less performance.
Anyone with more knowledge want to pipe in?

Your a pretty nice guy for leaving the keys with him....but obviously he took advantage of that ...i wonder if he beat on your car while you were away also. id only lend my car to someone who has the same reguards for an automobile as i do.

Not a Blowhole
No harm - the fuel management system corrects for this using the knock sensor. You only lose a few HP - I have seen engineering curves for the NSX from Acura, and the diff was a lot less than you might think between mid grade and premium - 8 HP or so is all.
