Hot Wheel!

No, not Hot Wheels. But literally, I have a hot wheel. I just got out of my car after about a 20 mile drive and could smell something like hot rubber. I checked around and found my drivers side rear wheel is hot...so hot I cannot touch the rim. It's heating up the tire. Something is hanging up.

I've not noticed any problem with braking and no unusual noises coming from that part of the car.

Any ideas on how to check if it's a hanging caliper or perhaps a bad bearing?

Thanks for any advice. Guess you know what I'll be doing this weekend.

I don't see how the calipers or bad bearings could heat up the rubber. You sure your alignment is good?

Alignment is right on. Rubber wasn't on fire or melting or anything, but that's what turned me on to something getting hot.

I just jacked up the rear end and that wheel turns harder then the other side. It's not locked up or anything but I can spin the right side and the wheel keeps moving for a couple of rotations. The 'bad' side quits spinning pretty quickly.

Tomorrow I'll remove the calipers and see how the wheel turns. Maybe it's just the slide pins sticking and needing lubrication. Hope so, that would be an easy fix.

If I end up having a bad wheel bearing, are they weekend mechanic replaceable?

Have you set the parking brake lately? The TL uses a drum style parking brake. That may be hanging up

Probably is the same as Accord's which have wheel bearing problems. My friend did his accord himself...
