Horriable Gas Mileage
#41
My mileage is even worse. I have a 2000 TL. I get no more than 14 mpg driving in the city. I don't have a heavy foot, although most of my driving is short distances. My indicator light usually goes on around 180-190 miles. I've read many postings. Some say it's normal, others say it's crazy low and that something is wrong. Problem is, I don't have a clue what is wrong. I don't want to take it to the dealer and have them charge me hundreds to take a look and say "nothing wrong". Should I just replace the O2 sensors? They do cost over $100 each though.

I drive probably near half and half when it comes to city/ highway mileage but i've read previous posts when people have said they have never got below 17mpg even with very hard accelerations ect. Lately i have been driving as slow as i possiably can. If someone has any type of feedback as to what could be wrong or if they have heard of people experencing the same problem i would really appericiate the reply's.

redbox, you must check your Fuel Controller, to get 180-190 for 14 gallons (when the light goes on) is pretty bad.

I get consistant 370-410 miles per tank with 70/50 highway/city mix and depending on the gas type+temperature+if i race or not... I'm at southern california and I always have A/C on.
There was a point in time where I was getting around 450... no BS

I'm running on all stock. Any clues on how to check or replace the Fuel Controller? I have no warning lights on my dashboard to indicate that something is currently wrong. What's the estimate on replacing it?
Thanks!
Thanks!

I have a 2001 TL with 83K miles. I have been getting anywhere from 22-24 i n mixed (40% city/60%Los Angeles freeway aka parking lot) and 28-30 on the highway on long trips. I would get that checked out. You should be at 20mpg at least.

Mine kind of sucks too...I went from getting like 240 miles to a tank all city 5 mile commute each way to like 210. I think I can still pull it to 240 if I run it near empty. Mixed highway and city 50/50 I can pull 325-350. All highway I can pull maybe 380, close to 400 but not quite. I guess this is common....figuring 17-18 mpg around town, which is what the car states is the regular gas mileage. My car tends to run better in the cooler temps rather than the 95 degree humid summers here, which suck. I'd rather have snow. I am hoping to see a slight increase in mileage soon. I think the car is running about like it's supposed to though.
