hood struts

I need to get some new hood struts. Does anybody have experience to share in reference to a particular brand? Price, etc. but mainly how well/long they have lasted. Thanks.

I got mine from Advanced Auto Parts. I don't remember the name, but they have worked great.

yeah, +/- $30 in parts and less than 5 minutes to install - please don't do that again.

Rockauto has the good one for 37 each, or the lowend one for 16 each. Find it under Body Exterior.

Yea guys, I know that NOW...
A year ago, I didn't know how to disconnect the battery from my car. After 2 months of lurking, I started following various DIYs. After learning a significant amount about our cars, I look back and laugh.

On a more related note, does anyone know if the OEM ones give out immediately, or slowly loose their strength? It would be a serious safety hazard if it just gave out while my head was under the hood.

The OEM ones will give out slowly. especially when cold, it would drop immediately.

I replaced mine about a year ago. It was about $5 more for OEM ones from the dealership as opposed to aftermarket ones, so I just went OEM and they work like a charm

these are hood struts, not a cam or piston - no need to go oem.
