Err, what tranny problems? I'm new here and considering the purchase of a 2000 or newer TL. Could you fill me in?

Thanks!

just about right

I own a 2001 3.2 TL (Naples Gold). My brother drove it after having driven a new Jaguar (either a S-Type or the traditional model, not the X-type) and exclaimed that the ride quality (including POWER) was as good, if not better.

In terms of styling, I like it's solid angular look (which might explain it's "very good" crash test ratings by Consumer Reports). The Lexus IS300 and the Infiniti I30 look derivative (i.e., it is somewhat obvious that they are just base Camries and Maximas "dipped in gold"). The TL, while it is based on the Accord platform, has its own distinct look.

The VALUE of the TL is outstanding - it comes with almost everything you could want in a luxury car.

I plan on buying another Acura (either another TL or an RSX)...it's got a great niche...slightly below Lexus and Infiniti (but just in terms of price)...and therefore, comes across with a quiet sophistication.

It is addictive to drive. Plus, this website is a great resource.

Your brother must have driven the S-Type b/c the ride quality in the TL may be good but no where near any of cars in the XJ series.

He said X-Type, not the XJ series. The X-Type is based off of Ford's Contour/Mondeo platform at a cost of $33k-$40K.

Thanks for the info....not to sound like an a$$, but I already knew that. You'd be hard-pressed to find a bigger Jaguar fan on this forum.

No regrets.

Good price. Good quality. Good ride. Good interior. Good looks.

I considered the Camry, ES300, IS300, Intrigue, Passat and Accord. The IS300 was too small, The ES300 too boring (2002 is UGLY), 2001 Camry (2002=ugh) and Accord are too common and not sporty enough, Passat has reliability issues (IMO) and the Intrigue is going (is?) obsolete. I did not consider the BMW 3 because of size & reliability. I don't care for Nissan or Infiniti because of depreciation issues.

I also have an 87 Legend with 214,000 almost trouble free miles. Maybe I'm biased towards Honda products.

11,000 trouble free miles on my TLS. My only wish is that I had bought the Navi.

you're right, carswell said not the X-Type. That only leaves the S-Type, the XJ- and the XK-series. I doubt it was the latter two b/c the XJ's are HUGE and the XK's are 2-door. It must have been the S-Type, which runs on the same platform as the Lincoln LS.

i love the TL it was everything i expected and more especially when i had it in fla for 2 years. However now that i'm in NYC the lights have been stolen twice and i might have to get rid of it. If that day comes it will be a very sad day, I love this car so much and it has never brought me bad luck. i just hope i can keep it, but this vandalism is out of control

I am still sitting on the fence. I regret getting this car because it does not drive like a true Honda. That is, it is having all sorts of problems that our other hondas still do not have like tranny, pinging, RATTLES!, starts abnormally and other problems. Also, the fact that they changed the TL so much within the last three years that it seems like mine is so obsolete. However, its just something about my car that makes me love it so much. If I had the choice again, I would still have bought the TL.

Things I do not like about my TL-S

The windshield wipers look broken with that bend in the middle.

The garage door opener has to be pressed for probably half a second to work. The one that came with the garage door I could just press and release.

Half a second is too long for you to wait?

Smile

.5 seconds * 4 times/day = 2 seconds/day

2 seconds/day * 365 days/year = 730 seconds/year = 12.17 minutes/year

12.17 minutes/year * 50 years = 608.3 minutes = 10 hours

Do you want to spend 10 hours of your life holding down a button???

Thumbs up

My TL is all and more than what I had expected it to be, when I bought it 14.5 months ago. The only complaint is the sofe/thin paint sctatches much to easily. I have no mechanical problems so far except for warped rotors that were fixed under the warranty.

Regret I trade it for a X5. And the X5 end up being a lemon. Was think of a RSX, member in this board think I should get a RSX Type s. Since wife can not drive stick and the 03 TL is coming out, maybe I will go back with the TL again.

No regrets, still in lurve!~~!

Not one day have I regretted buying my NBP TL. IN every situation it has exceeded my expectations. It pulls even with 5 people in the car. Takes on ramp curves at 70 without flinching and gives amazing fuel economy.
ANd the dealer is now a casual acquaintance of mine. Service folks have never given me any chance to complain.
13 months and 13000 miles later I still think I made the right choice.
