My house was built late 2001 ,all block 5/8 plywood on roof and built to code for florida hurricane standards . Block homes were crumbled in Greneda .... hurricane code in fla is 100 mph winds.. Frances has done alot of damage ,I lost 2 big trees in my yard. My brother-in-law's restaraunt KC Crumps on the Homosassa ,which was an Historical landmark ;burnt to the ground thursday night ,due to effects from hurricane frances,I amnot taking any chances ..best wishe's to you and your family.

It's obvious what is happening here. American phlisophy has take over this plant. The accountants are making transmissons, and quality and the customer is secondary. These transmissions have multiple problems, and some may have been engineered in to limit service life. This mindset hit the big three hard in the 70's and 80's. It has crept into Honda. Acura/Honda is going to have to win back a lot of customers, and quailty will not be there friend.

That Girl's estimates for transmission failure might be too low.
Just a follow up on this transmission failure thread. Consumer Reports April 2007 stated on page 24 that
"nearly a quarter of owners of the 2001 Acura CL reported a bad transmission problem..."
But it gets worse. The questionnaire is worded, "if you had any problems with your car in the past 12 months that you considered serious..."
If nearly A QUARTER of owners reported transmission problems in the past 12 months before the questionnaire, over 24 months, the number of owners experiencing transmission problems could be NEARLY 50%. Most owners keep a car more than 24 months unless the transmission or something else breaks too often.
That Girl might have estimated too low.

I have been searching and searching this forum for an answer, and haven't found it, is there a number or percentage that shows the failure rate? Right now I am on transmission number 3 and looking like I will need tranny number 4 very soon!
Has anyone gotten solid estimates of the true failure rate of these transmissions? Its crazy how I did so much research BEFORE buying the car in 2005/2006, looking through Consumer Reports used car issues, with mostly ALL red dots, surely NO BLACK DOTS (meaning a failure in something). Now fast forward to now and look in a the issue last month, 2002 & 2003 Acura TL, BLACK DOT for major transmission problems! Talk about frustrating!
Now.... do we have any recourse, since the resale value of my car is dropping by HUGE amounts on a daily basis??? The resale value difference between 2003 and 2004 is astronomical compared to the value change in 2004 to 2005, or 2005 to 2006, etc. Aren't these cars supposed to hold their value???

Well ... I'm on my original transmission ... 138 000km (~86,000 miles) and feels fine. I would think the failure rate is around ~3% right now ... which is horrible. Watch the numbers grow as time goes on.

Proclaiming it works great at 86k miles is begging for a failure-
just ask phee, who was jazzed about his 99 for a month- saying how it was perfect- then trans died- electrical died- etc etc
Overall the numbers may be low as a percentage of america- and overall azine numbers will be higher becasue this is a tech help forum.

the ones that make it to 100k miles seem to be winners and keep on going and going
Failures from 50-90k miles is right in the norm for gen2 according to local acura head tech

the 99 4 speeds are way more reliable than the 00+ 5 speeds.

In feb of 05 it appears the latest round of updates to the trans have extended the life of them. Unfortunately there is NO recourse. Also i dont know how you didnt come across this problem sooner. It was well known by 2001. they have had a black dot for a year or 2 at least now in CR
