Honda CRV replacement.

Hey guys need more input, things seems to just happen in my life. Couple of weeks ago my fiancee's new 2002 CRV with 2300 miles got totalled. (the back tires blew for no reason on the highway and she starts hitting guard rails and then filpped a couple of times) Finally the insurance company said they would pay us 21450 for the car (we paid 24000+ too and just had it for couple of months). So now we're in the market for a new car again. I wanted her to get a SUV again but she's scare of those things now. I was thinking the new Accord.....any other cars you would recommend us test driving? I don't care about class as long as its between 20-26 thousands (boohoo so much for a new TL-S). Thanks for input guys.

WRX, since you sort of like the SUV type. AWD, turbocharged and if get the wagon, it will have as much room as the CRV. 227hp stock, chipped will be around the 260-270 range I've heard.

Something to look into....I highly doubt she wants it chipped, cuz currently we're looking at the non V6 EX accord.....I kept telling her V6 but oh well.

What kind of tires were on the CRV? You may need to get a lawyer to recover all of your loss.

Also has she considered a Pilot? A tad higher than you want to spend, but much more stable.

Hey guys! You are giving the CRV a bad rap here. If both tires blew at the same time, it was likely caused by some kind of road hazard. That could happen to any car. Happened to one of the Michelins on my TL recently. I have owned my CRV for 3 years and know that it is a very stable car. Much more so than a heavier, higher center of gravity, full sized truck-based SUV. Frankly, given the choice of my CRV or TL, I think the CRV is more fun to drive; that is if you don't want to race somebody.

A non-V6 Accord? Wait for the TSX then.

altima - although it feels a bit cheap inside
VW passat- rated really well on edmunds
element - it's an SUV, and ugly, but better looking then the accords IMO

WHat other requirements does she have - 4 door, awd, storage space, is a nice used car okay, etc

Bridgestones were on the CRV I believe....I haven't seen it since the insurance took it to get inspected. My fiancee's dad is looking into the tires issue....who knows....I distrust firestone(bridgestone) so much. Umm a Pilot might be just too much over our budget....If I didn't just get a 350Z, I'd probably looked into that.

I'm not giving the CRV any bad rap.....if the tires blew its not the car's fault, its the tires. i picked the CRV out for my finacee because it got 5 stars in crash tests. After seeing the wreck and my finacee walking away with only seat belt burns, I can say the CRV is a very safe and sturdy car....but IMO the TL is way funner car to drive. VROOM VROOM

ohh.....I love to wait for the TSX but she needs a car NOW. I need my TL for work and she has a hard time driving a stick on the 350Z. Currently she's driving her sister's 2000 civic and I'm sure her sis wants her car back soon.

CRV, Pilot, or even MDX are all SUV's which have a much higher center of gravity than cars. The Pilot may be heavier than the CRV, and seems more stable. But if the rear tire blew on the Pilot, it would still roll over the same way as the CRV.

Oh yeah almost forgot abou the Altima. something else to consider.

She really doesn't have any requirements other then the car being black (shrugs...FL is so hot and she wants a black car). She likes to carry lots of stuff back and forth so I'm thinking 4 doors and good trunk/storage space. Also nothing too huge cuz the parking garage at our APT is very cramp (I wouldn't want anything bigger in length then my TL cuz it will be a pain to park). Oh and she doesn't want any used cars but I'd consider anything.

I would still go for the WRX. BTW, Bridgestone = Firestone.

LOL just came back from looking at the WRX wagon. She took one look at it and then walked away. She told me she's not driving a stationwagon anytime soon. Oh well, didn't like the sedan either. guess I'm getting a towing hitch bike rack for my TL since I can't use her CRV anymore for my bikes. <sigh> Accord is the next one after dinner.....hope she don't complain about the look on this one.

Went to the honda dealer, they were remodeling their whole place and had limited selection of Accord. None were black. Will have to look at another dealer. Right now our consideration will be 1) Accord Ex 2) Mazda6 or Altima 4) Volvo S40 5) Camery XLE.

Well.......proud owners of a new 2003 Satin Sliver Accord Sedan Ex (sadly its an I4) but the guy gave me a deal on the I4 that he wouldn't on the V6. The total price was like 26 with all the tax crap and I finally got it down to 22 when I told him we would be paying cash. All in all a very nice car.....the speed guages are huge and even a nearly blind person can see them without glasses. Good job on another good car Honda.
