Holy **** - Nissan Altima 240HP
Check out this bad ass!
http://www.freshalloy.com/cars/nissa...rstreport.html
It's was unveiled @ New York Auto show. 240HP for $25000 or less and 0-60 under 7sec. And Maxima/I35 will get 260HP V6 as "STANDARD".
So I guess the standard TL getting the 260HP Type S engine in 2003 may happen after all.
Let the war on HP begins!

I remember after the 70's, the government and environmental agencies put tight restrictions on car makers to demote their husky, high-hp V8 engines to low-emission, higher fuel economy four cylinders and six cylinders. Performance and styling went WAY down -- back to boxy, small hatchbacks and squared off sedans.
It's interesting to see how the industry has captured the art of delivering low emissions, great fuel economy, and high hp/torque out of these new V6 engines. It's a marvel that in Cali, the ULEV TL-S still puts out 260 horsepower!! I'm one of the many who can't wait for the years to roll by and continue to reveal these new, AWESOME cars.
Acura has announced to select individuals who were selected to test-drive vehicles that they will, in 2003 make the 260 hp TL-S the standard TL, and the NEW TL-S will have a 300hp/260lb-ft. torque V6 w/ the VTM-4 all-wheel drive option swiped from the MDX. It'll be a sweet ride to have, because supposedly the four-wheel drive technology in the MDX is phenomenal and very unique from other AWD systems in that -- when you acceleration from a stop, it sends all power to the rear wheels, and then shifts to front-wheel drive once you're cruising -- that would solve MANY of the TL-S's performance prob's off-the-line.
Can't wait!

300HP TL-S with AWD sounds impressive and intriguing. Did Acura mention the styling changes or new generation body style? 2003 is the same year the Maxima/I35 will be redesigned and they will be based on the Altima platform. The Maxima will finally get a rear independent suspension (one from the Skyline supercar, too!)
Looks like this new Millenium is turning out great so far. I just hope our economy doesn't go ka-bluey like it did during the early 90's.
