HID question

Does HID ever burn out like regular headlights?
I've never seen it happen.
if they do, do they burn out at the same time?
Do they get dimmer over time?
If they burn out, are they expensive to replace? are they covered under warranty?
any one know about this?
has this topic been covered already?

yes i've heard of HID burning out.

the length of time i'm not sure about compared
to a normal headlight..but i can imagine them lasting
a while longer.

don't think they get dimmer...

they are more expensive than normal headlights... if that's what
your asking... and no... parts like that aren't usually covered
in warranty

HID tubes do not use filaments and are not as susceptible to vibration as tungsten or halogen bulbs are. This alone contributes to a lengthened lifespan. Also, HIDs should last a very long time as long as its power output is well-regulated (i.e. its power supply properly modulates the voltage over the startup, warmup and operating range).

And yes, you can replace HID bulbs. I don't really know how much they cost though!

the stock ones (i say "stock" 'cuz this doesn't apply to cars with aftermarket hid kits or stolen ones installed on civics) are covered under warranty because we are not supposed to service them ourselves...unless you like getting shocked (see the little warning behind the lamps?)

and another reason they are covered under warranty is because they are supposed to last the lifetime of the car (which means probably 6+ years hopefully). they are designed to do that, so if they don't do what they are designed to they are covered under warranty.

if you had regular halogen bulbs and they burned out the 3rd week or maybe even the 3rd month you had your car, they'd also be covered under warranty because they are supposed to last longer than 3 weeks. the problem may be deeper than the bulb burning out though (ie electircal problem...but that would be covered too).
