HID flickering

My 99 tl's driver side headlight is flickering for 10 to 20 sec then shuts off,now I just had major body work done to the back drivers side (accident) the body shop checked the light and said it might not be the bulb but it could be the little black tranformer box inside the headlight housing.I called the dealer and they said the bulb would be $260+30bucks to install and $300to$400 for the transformer box are these prices right and what could the problem be already got 2 tickets for headlight don't need or want a 3rd my insurance company said those lights are not covered because these light go bad all the time help me

You're being d|cked by everyone, by the dealer and the insurance. The box or the ballast will cost you about $150, the bulb should cost you less than that. The insurance is full of sh|t, these light don't go bad all the time, in fact these lights outlast the halogens. My suggestion, do everything yourself, it's simple and you can find instructions online and save money. You can also check whether it's the bulb or the ballast (although it sounds like the ballast or the connections) by taking that bulb and put it in the other headlight.

excuse me but there is no f*cking way that a OEM ballast will cost $150. If you can get it for $150 (brand new), please let me place an order for 10!! Stock d2r bulbs will run in the neighborhood of $200 plus a bulb from dealer. You can probably get it around $100 if you go ebay for used one and such...but new one from dealer? No way. Looks like you're trying to give advice but you have no idea what you're saying. poor thing.

go back to the insurance and claim the the impact of the hit in the rear resulted in the breakage of the filament in the HID and it is a direct impact of the accident and should be covered. It will be helpful if you can substantiate that fact. also ask him if he can substantiate that the ballast go bad all the time. I will call his bull sh!t. you can refuse to settle the claim. they are rated on how quickly they can close these cases. So my recommendation is to drag it out until the remedy is satisfactory

The flickering is due to a problem in the ballast, which will cause a problem with the light source. The prices you recieved are correct and your best bet for a proper replacement. If you try to buy a cheep ballast from another company it will not fit the connections. You will have to split the wire, and at 20K volts inrush, that is not something you want to mess with.

-Trust me, I work on these every day.
