Angry HID Fading????

The lights on my TL-S fades to a weak-looking white in 20 seconds after I turn it on. My friend's CL-S headlight stays superwhite with a blueish tint on it almost the whole time. Does anyone else encounter this or is it just mines. People say that my HID's are messed up and bring it back to the shop to check on it. Anyone???

Nope they do, Mercedes does, BMW and lexus all fade. They still look bluer that ours due to the design on their headlights which were primarily designed for Europe, especially the BMW's, but they still fade none the less. When you turn them on they are bluer than they will be in a few seconds.

BMW HIDs are definitely the bluest...love that lens that they have! My Lexus HID is just like the Acura...white.

I believed the 99-01 HIDs are brighter and has a bluer tint to them than the 02 HIDs.
How do I know, well I compared them side-by-side and even the dealers told me too.

That's true also, because one of my friends have a 99 TL and his was bluer and brighter than mines. I have a TL-S.

Yeh, my TLS has white, not blue headlights. They're almost indistinguishable from daylight, too. I love it! I'd rather have white than blue. It really improves visibility.

I have a question for those of you who think the Type-S headlights are not as bright as the 99-01 TL's: How are you making the comparison?

Parked to a TL side by side. TL has bluer, more concentrated light compare to TL-S, which the ligh spreads wider(more coverage??), and whiter(instead of blue-ish)..

the 99-01 TL HIDs are made by a diffrent company.... they have more blue effect than the 02 TLs.... i think they went for a cheaper HID system.... but i think it still looks good....

OK, but did you look at the headlights or sit in the driver's seat and see how bright they were? I owned a 2000 and now the Type-S and I see no difference from the driver's seat. If you look at the headlights, the '02s don't look as bright but I can all but guarantee that light (lumen) output is equal.

I don't know who you are asking but I did compare the two by looking directly at the headlights and by sitting inside the driver's seat. The 99-01 HIDs are brighter and bluer than the 02 HIDs.

I think I read somewhere that Congress is having hearings on the brightness of the headlights of certain luxury cars, including BMW, Acura, etc. I think the reason that our lights are not as blue is because Acura thought ahead and hoped to avoid having to replace the headlights if it becomes illegal to have them. Just a thought...

Are the yellow lights at 7-11 brighter than the white lights at the Exxon across the street? No, they are putting out the same number of lumens (usually). It just appears that the yellow lights are dimmer. I think you people are falling prey to your brain playing a trick on you through your rods and cones. The reason 02 headlights look dimmer is because of the way the light is reflected out (02s have "cleared" headlights). The only real way to measure "brightness" is to take a photometer and measure lumen output. Your argument for 02 headlights being dimmer is much like the little old ladies complaining about all of the HIDs out there being too bright. By the way, "blueness" has nothing to do with "brightness." I didn't mean to get all bothered about this stupid topic, but perception of light output and actual light output are 2 completely different things.
