Yesterday i noticed the light getting really really purple. I looked outside and the left headlight wasn't lighting up all the way. It was dark purple. Is this the bulb goin?? I just got the car a month ago its a 2000 with 50k miles.
I thought these were supposed to last a long time???
WHere should i get a replacement that's not like $167??? THe other one is still good..
thanks..

Your headlights are supposed to last the life of the car. Not knowing what happened orginally to the car, there are several reasons why it happened, moisture, heat, improper use etc. my recommendation is first check out your local junkyard and see if you can pull the left headlight ballast out of a scrap TL. If you have to buy a brand new one, it is more expensive but I highly recommend you get both left and right headlights so you wont have color and intensity difference. A brand new light is a little whiter than your 3 year old light. Let us know and good luck

Yes 03 TL bulbs will fit 99-03 TLs. OEM HID bulbs 99-03 are Osram D2R bulbs, I heard some of the newer 03 TL uses Philips D2R (same bulbs from different company). None of the TLs uses D2S bulbs, those are made for projector type headlights.

Don't buy anything beyound 6000k, light output drastically fall after 5000k, 6000k is ok but it has less lumes then stock HID. and HID really don't last the life of the car. They should last from 6000-30000 hrs. Depending on how often you use it, it could last the life of the car. 6000k bulbs range from 215-300 depending on brand and who you get it from.

My left (drivers side) headlight turned purple tonight. WTF. Good thing for these archives.
VTEC11, did you resolve the issue? Anyone else have this problem? This better be covered under the warrany!

I have a 2000TL with 52k so i don't think they would have covered it.
I bought a pair of 4300k Philips Germany bulbs brand new from ebay for like $75. I know the 6k's are nice but i dind't want to shell out $200+.
TimN,
Yeah, I replaced them both, and it turned out to be a bulb that went bad.. The philips are ok, they look more yellow than the osrams....

Do HID's Just die? or do they first become all dark blue/purple and flicker on and off?
I'm worried that maybe it's not the bulb, cause with halogens, they're either on or dead... and maybe it is perhaps the Ballast.

Why don't you take it to the dealer and ask them to check it? It may or may not be the bulb. What if you put a new bulb in and it burns out? Could it be a short or a broken connection?

That's why folks should start their own threads instead of hijacking someone else's.
