The light output and the Bulb output color will never be the same when working with HIDs
Youll have to expect that Yellow HIDs (3K) will deliver a Somehow yellowish light on the road but will look Some wierd light yellow on the Headlight! If you want true Yellow light go back to Halogen and anyway Yellow Lights on a TL aside from Fogs look Just Wrong...

I did an HID conversion for my fog lights and I was also a little disappointed with the color. Its not as deep a yellow as I had expected. The only bulbs Ive seen with an acceptable yellow color are Philips'.
Philips Ultinon 3000k:
Google turns up a lot more images so you can see for yourself.
Good luck finding them. I remember finding one dealer online, but each bulb was almost $150 each. Beware of cheaper "licensed" Philips bulbs made in China.
I went the less expensive route and ordered yellow lamin-x film for the lens.

If you want the piss yellow glow off the reflectors, get yellow halogens (the yellow you see on some Lexus's). 3000K HID's will reflect a light, but very bright yellow off the reflectors.

Yeah, I've been contemplating going back to yellow halogen, but only because I get tired of having to replace the HID bulb every year (at least one of the fog lights)
It's also a pain to have to keep turning my fogs on/off if I forget to turn them off BEFORE turning the car back on. They start playing peek-a-boo with me. Right now, one of them is purple when I turn them on but turns normal color when warmed...it's dying

Thats a Cheap Ballast problem, Also if you wire up your HIDs to the Ignition switch you will rape their life span. HIDs needs to charge once On if you start your engine they Will shut off cancelling their normal burn on effect.
If you are planning to Auto Turn on them buy a Relay Kit that doesnt allow them to shut off even when you crank the engine..

He's right. I'm doing Nokya 2500k Yellow halogen bulbs in my fogs. Other guys have too on the board anjd thats what changed my mind. I want to give my car some JDM touch and yellow fogs were a start. Circa 1st Gen IS300/Altezza. The Nokyas are cheap on Ebay. It'll be a big upgrade as you know the 2nd Gen TL's fogs are more like city lights. Low wattage. My 3.5 Gen fogs are 35watts which explains what I thought about them. The Nokyas are 55watt so they'll be way brighter than stock and give off a gold/yellow hue. If anyone here has Nokyas or PIAA Ion yellow bulbs please post. What size bulb is 2.5 Gen TL? My 3.5 Gen is H8.

yea something is wrong with the wiring or your ballast...
i dont have a relay....so if i get in the car they dont turn on until i let go of the starter....since i put the key in n crank it right away..i dont stop at 1 nor 2... but like i said in another thread..im going to add another wire that will give it power when the courtesy lights come on....so the burn in will happen while i walk to car n i get to enjoy them turning on like i do with my headlights...

I just ordered a $9 relay kit for the HID fogs too.

I cant really tell since I dispossed the shitty OEM battery in favor for a Yellow Top (Audio +++). They have never turn off when I crank up the Engine, Thats when I forgot to turn them off since I use HID Fogs as a DRLs.
You can Try that for yourself hook one ballast positive to the battery instead of using the OEM Fog Cable and see if they turn off when you crank it, If they do Even with the relay kit your battery isnt Strong enough and they will flicker every time.
