Question Hey Just Wondeing............

LISTEN I NEED A TL...Does ANYONE here Remember the feeling they had when going over to the dealer to get their car....Well I have that same feeling right now!!!! I happen to stay in the Chicagoland location. I own a 91' Q45 w/ 103,000 miles on the dash and want to either trade it in or sell it for what I think would be a better deal than what let's say a dealer would give me. I want to purchase a 99 or 2000 TL (in blue!!!) w/ navi with possibly 20-50K on the dash....They seem to be hovering around the $23-$27K Range out here though because they seem to be in high demand. Does anyone think that w/ $10,000 down the dealer may be willing to budge the price on a TL w/ or without Navi to even 16 or 17,000? What about a fax attack? What does anyone think about that? I need HELP!!! I WANT A TL NOW...!!! I'm open to suggestions.....

Go with a '00 over a '99, IMO...Take your car to the dealer, and work your stuff...one thing though, is that you MUST show that you are wanting to buy, otherwise they won't take you seriously.. the first thing I did when I started negotiating was put my American Express Platinum card on the desk, and told him that I would like to buy a car, wanna work with me or just jerk me around? All of a sudden, mechanics seemed to pop out of nowhere (that weren't available 5 minutes ago) to test drive my trade in...Bottom line, I walked out of the dealership with a deposit on a new TL..

Dealers vs. private sale:

1- Dealer will find it easier to get you a loan than bank or credit union, but likely at a higher rate.
2- Dealer will charge more for a used car than a private individual.
3- Dealer will pay less for your trade in than you can sell it for on the private market.
4- Private sale used TL will be a slightly higher risk car, as dealers generally won't take a piece of crap car to sell on their lot.
5- Overall, you will do better to go with selling your car to an individual and then looking for a private individual for a used TL, but it will be more work on your end.
6- Possibly you will have to first sell your car, then look for a nice used TL. So, you may be without a car for a short while, but you'll save money.
7- A dealer will give you wholesale value for your trade in, and then turn around and sell it for retail. That's why it costs more to do it that way!

Like the guy above, I, too, suggest you get a '00 instead of a '99 due to the fact that it's a better car.

Good luck!

Thumbs up

Sounds REALLY Good. Just curious though...what's the difference between years 99 and 2000 models? Unfortunately, my passion for a TL just started now and not 2 years ago when they first appeared on the scene. So I only have the brochures on the 2k2 models. I want to spend less than 20k for a model w/ navi and less than 50k on the dash. Does anyone think its physically possible?
