Here is my baby..LOTS of work...

Alrighty guys..here we go...

First of all, I'd like to say hello to everyone. My name is Jorge and i'm a proud new owner of a 2002 TL. Here's the info on the car. The car was purchased from a dealer only auction on 6-2-06. I bought the car for $5,200. Pretty good deal..Here's what it looked like when I bought it...

I recieved my car friday, and here are a couple pics of what it looked like..

After a little fixing up...

I havn't really done anything to the outside. I'm ordering the OEM lip kit and trying to find TypeS rims and springs tomorrow..

Let me know what you guys think. So far I'm up to $6,000 spent and I have myself a perfectly running car.

Yikes, that menas you in to the car for 11g's already and still have all that body damage to take care of. Also the rims/tires, airbags, sensors, and who knows what else needs to be replaced. Not to mention the salvage title.

To each his own, but I wouldn't have bought that car with that kind of damage and especially a salavge title because you will not be able to get that back.

But looks good though

^^ Yeah, i agree... Economically, i don't think it makes sense? I'm guess you'll be spending at LEAST another 1k on the car, esp. if you want to get matching rims.. are those 15" rims in the rear? I'm sure you can pick up a used rim or two from the black market section of this forum.

Nice job though.

gotta respect that- 2k on rims, some interior pieces, a little bit more body work and it will look pretty damn good for less than 12k

that seems like a good deal. Salvage titles are fine as long as your going to keep the car forever and not sell it.

I'm following you Jorge... I think you're in the car nicely at this point. Some Type S wheels and some cosmetic damage cleaned up, I think you'll have a steal of a TL IMO.

Nice job so far...

Oh ok, lol. I'm looking to keep it under...WAY under 10. Cosmetically i'm looking at about 900-1000. I'm getting the type S rims, H&R sports, and the OEM kit..that should be about 1500. and then alll I need is the screen for my carputer project..another 200..Tints..100 so it should be under 10.

Well it seems like you have a pretty decent deal right there butttttt and I say buttt remember with a title on the car when your transmission goes down you ll be sort of paying it all back and with minor fixes here and there.....So basically lets hope that the car runs without much problems and it should be fine and welcome to the TLer's Club

Damn you are committed!

Do those 15" rims in the rear clear the OEM brakes properly?

salvage cars are fine, as long as you know who did the repairs, purchase cars that didn't have major accidents (no profit there) and be smart about it and all. My family buys and sells salvage title vehicles...my bro has a 2005 TL with navi with only 2300 original miles...beautiful car! My car is a salvage. We have a few rsx for sale as well! Salvage to the fullest!

just curious......how many miles are on it? Aside from the damage the interior looks pretty well preserved.

i own a salvaged title car also...my car was hit on the front passenger side, the passenger side air bag popped, im not sure about the driver side. from that info, im guessin my car substained some pretty bad damage. everything is fixed and it runs like new now. the only part, the transmission housing has cracks due to the accident. it leaks tranny fluid/oil, but after applying glue, all the leaks has stopped. i went back to the place where i bought it, and i dealt with the seller adequately, and he gave me a 1 year warranty on my tranny incase it fails.

What you need to be cautious about is your transmission. Once that fails, you're gonna be lookin at around 2gs - 3gs to fix it up. good luck.

I picked her up for 3g's, and put in about 4,000 in repairs. Got alot of parts from ebay and the junkyard, the repaint alone costed like 1200 threw some friends. Runs just like new and when we we're finished with it, it looked brand new. Btw, those pics were like from 3 years ago, My dad drove the car for since then and gave it to me this year. I cant find the pics after the repair, but this is how it looked when my dad handed it over to me.

And then I of course started modding

I too owned a salvaged car (reconditioned on the title), a 96 Accord EX-V6, my first car. Bought it in 2000 with 67K miles for $10.5K TTL. It was a great deal for this top-of-the-line Accord then, and I only bought it because the engine and suspension weren't damaged. I figure if the car only has light damage, it's a good deal.

Car restoration can be fun and rewarding work, especially if you know you're saving money. Since the mileage isn't too high, regardless of whether or not the tranny fails, then it was a good deal.

Nice work.

FYI, salvage title can be issue with very minor damages...it really depends on how you claim from the opponents insurance. my buddy's 04 Accord coupe was issue salvage title with just a hit on the rear bumper, nothing else. but then he claimed big $$$ with some of his ways.....!

my previous car, a 98 accord, was hit 2 time and i spend over $4000-5000 on repairing, it still claims a clean title!

My car is a salvage title as well, picked her up for $8,000 from Bohemia, Long Island. My car was in a flood so most of my damage was electrical. I had to replace a lot of stuff, but all in all it was worth it becasue i found a guy on ebay with a salvage yard who had the same year tl that was not in a flood but in a accident and that is where i got all my parts from.

Me tring to get it started after the tow truck dropped her off.

Inside didn't look too bad when i first got it, few panels here and there gone.

Navi, and the radio was DEAD.

With Patience and work it all payed off.

And after everything was said and done i have a 2003 TL S with navi with only 37K on it for a grand total of $10,500.
