Help!! Unorthodox Pullies

I decided to get the UR pullies but not sure which set to get. Can some one explain the whole under/over drive thing. Can some one tell me which ones i will benefit the most from (HP wise) with minimal risks. Thanks in advance

I read in a recent post that pullies reduce engine life by up to 30 percent. I'd stay away from them.

I would not recommend either.....stock pullies are good enough. They may be lighter but can cause engine damage after a while.

The real gain come from the crank pulley alone, not the others...I simply purchased the crank pulley for that reason. Secondly, if you have a large, power draining electronics (such as audio) system, there can be charging issues with the pulleys...

That being said, there is some conversation about the engine wear expectancy with pulley use. There are several people with over 100k miles and the pulleys. The are definitely problems with the pulley on vehicles such as a Supra with the harmonic balancing crank but from those of us with the pulley, I've seen no problems...

Crank pulley gives you the power. Alt and PS are pretty much for looks.

And they do not underdrivce the accessories. They are the same size, just lighter.

The AEM pulleys underdrive since they are smaller.

I have the UR crank and alternator pulley (bought used from somone that got the Comptech SC). I love them. Definitely feel a difference.

UR also makes a same size as stock but lighter crank called the Ultra Sc.

The UR crank is under driven by 20%. The accessory pullies are same size but lighter. The crank will under drive your accessories because it is smaller. Think of it like your typical bicycle. If you go to a smaller sprocket on the crank, you can spin the rear wheel easier but you can't go as fast. In addition, the UR crank is much lighter so there is less mass for the motor to spin.

You will notice the difference. It is not huge, but significant. When I dyno'd the car when I had the UR pully set, the guys had to do a third gear pull. In first and second, the motor rev'd to quick for the computer to get a good reading

If you are concerned about hurting your alternator, then get the Sc or try other mods.

I have had no issues with the UR Ultra S crank or the Ultra Sc crank. In fact, my Acura dealer installed them both! I say go for it.

The gains from my UR crank pulley were like the gain from the Cold Air Intake....not huge, but decent.

i wouldnt worry about engine live issues because your not removing a harmonic balancer when you are installing them on a honda. i had around 200k on my prelude engine with a set of pullies on it and the engine is still fine

Thanks everybody for your replies! ... im definetly going for it though... I've read enough good things so im convinced. So my next question is exactly which one should i get? Should i get the Ultra S, Ultra SC or the Ultra SSC set?

Go with the Ultra SS set. Minimum go for the Ultra S crank. The only reason you would want the Sc crank is if you are going to install the supercharger. If that is not in the near future, the under drive crank will yield better results.

Just got mine installed today for $80.00

The Gates belts that are recommended worked great. i only installed the crank pulley and not the alternator pulley or the power steering pulley -- didn't want to experience any "dimming" of my instrument cluster at idle....etc.

So far.. there is a difference in revving .. and it seems to snap off the line quicker... however, since it started snowing heavily today, i won't be able to establish the real difference till we are dry again .. full review to come.

Love it so far.

Install took 45 minutes for my very experienced installer.
