Question Help!! Tl Vibrates/shakes When Accelerating

Ok sorry if this in the wrong section mods can move it where it needs to go but I thought this was the best place for it.

I have a 2002 tl type s with various mods to it (see sig) most of the time when i accelerate between 35-45 the car shakes pretty bad. It is worse when i punch it but I have not done that too much because it feels like my car is going to fall apart I have taken it in to the dealer and they dont know what it is the tires and wheels are ballanced and aligned just fine and the tranny checks out just fine I need help figuring out what this may be. The dealer told me that it was best to wait till it gets worse so they can better diagnose the problem but I dont want to be driveing my car like this if its bad for it. Any ideas of what it could be or have you had experiences like what I am having.

Thanks guys I know you will help me out here.

yup i agree, most likely an engine mount because i had the same problem. try to go over bumps and listen/feel carefully... try to figure out where the shaking occurs from.. if its the front of the car, it's likely an engine mount...

UPDATE: Ok the dealer that I took it to before was Jay Wolfe and i just felt like thay just loaded me a line of BS with my car so I took it to Superior Acura and it took them 45 minutes and came back and said that the "right and left inner CV joints" need to be replaced. They quoted me $963 to do all of this. I took it to another mechanic and they said that they had never heard of replacing just the inner CV joints and why just not replace the whole axle. I called Acura and told them that and they said that they could not get a whold axle in and would just have to replace the inner joints. I am susposed to go in on friday to get another opinion on the whole matter. The mechanic who I know said that he would replace the whole axle for me for about $500. But he doesnt think that is the problem and would not guarentee that it would fix the problem. I called Acura and asked them what would happen if I paid them the $963 and it didnt fix the problem. They told me that they would guarentee that it would fix the problem and if it didnt then they would take they new parts off and put the old ones on at no charge to me. So I guess that is a plus for going with acura. Plus it wont be quite $963 cause I have a 10% off and the $45 diagnostic fee will be waived. But I guess my question is from the information that the car shakes/vibrates around 37-55 now when I accelerate is it possible in your guys opinion that it could be the CV joints and what happenes if I dont fix it right away. Any coments are appreciated.

That doesn't make any sense? $960+ for CV axles, and wouldn't it have other symptoms? Hit any hard bumps lately? Could it be a bent rim? I'd definitely get several opinions from several mechanics before even considering almost $1k in repairs to a relatively new TL.

And how many miles do you have?

All the rims are fine, that was one of my thoughts. and no hard bumps at all very careful with her like less than 1mph over speed bumps(mabey im paranoid) and the car has 73000 miles on it.

thats one problem that i never heard of on any TL's before.. are you sure it isnt shot motor mounts?? i get a slight vibration since one of them are gone so i need to replace it.. but thats only 50 dollars to replace. i think you should check those before anything else. the only other problem that could be the results of this are bent rims, but like you said, there's no problems with the rims.

and wow.. you drive that thing everywhere! 73k on an 02TL? i have a 99 with only 65k on it..

I do drive a lot, the person before me had like a 45 min trip to work everyday. But I drive a lot, too much I think sometimes. They said that they have checked the motor mounts and they are fine. Also mine is just not a slight vibration its a lot more than that. So im stumped.

My first guess would be the drive axles, most likely the outer CV joints.

My second guess would be torque converter lock-up. Does the car shift properly?

I would have the work done where they will stand-by there work and refund you your $ if they didn't fix the problem.

They said the inner CV joints, and the car shifts great. And I was thinking the same thing to have them do it but I want it in writing that they will not charge me if the problem is not fixed.

Well I took the car in to Acura again today becuase if my seat belt tensioner and the service manager wanted to feel it first hand. He assures me it is the inner CV joints and will stand behind that with the agreement that if the parts dont fix it then he will not charge me for it. So
I think I will just have him do the work and see what happens.

CV joints would do that. My buddy blew an axle at the track and I had to drive it back for him. At certain speeds, the entire car would shake, but at other speeds, it would be fine.

Nearly 1,000 dollars to replace CV joints!? I could do that in under 2 hours and the parts aren't that expensive. What a rip-off.

Yep. CV boots go all the time and the grease would come out. After a while, the CV's don't get enough lubrication, get heated up and start shaking and shit.

Shit! now that you said that I started noticing it after I took it to the track. Uhhhh could the track really have caused it. All I did was one 1/4 mile run and left. But it was shortley after I went that I noticed it.

All it took for my buddy to blow the axle was one run. In fact, it was the first time he took his newly acquired Integra Type-R, first run ever, and he blew it.

Did you get a lot of wheel hop? If you did, then that could've done it. My friend got mad wheel hop, and by the end of that same run, we noticed the vibrations/shaking.

Oh, and I just wanted to add that the next day, he was driving it around town, and the axle finally fell out of the transmission, and his car just sat there in gear revving up and down, not going anywhere.

So stop driving it.

Its not that bad at all, when i took it to the track i didnt even spin the tires, the dealer doesnt think it will just fall out quite yet they said that was VERY rare for just inner CV joints
