Unhappy Help on spark plugs

can someone help me on the spark plug install?
I actually finished the installation process, the problem is... after the installation, the "check engine" light came on... why is that?
Instead of the Denso irids. I installed the equivalent, NGK irids. which I found by doing a search on s. plugs from this site.
Can someone please help me on this one? Thanks.

theres a couple of things you can check

try going back over the whole installation
first disconnect the battery just the negative to reset the comp
once you remove the boot first
take out the plug add some antiseize(not that this will solve the problem but since your at it) on the threading of the plug. then retighten you dont need to tighten too hard, just once you feel resistance tighten slightly over that.
then put the boot back on make sure the boot is plugged into the spark plug, the one nut that holds the boot in tighten and plug in the harness make sure you hear the click.
reapeat over and over for each cylinder,
dont take everything out all at once....... one cylinder at a time
then reconnect the battery,
if this dont werk post up again.
good luck....

j83:
you make it sound like the check engine light means he did something wrong...it doesn't. You have to reset the condition code for it...search on here for a DYI on it...

i had the same problem as you when i did it and i thought i did something wrong as well. But all you have to do is take a 10mm and disconnect the (-) side of the battery. leave it out for a couple minutes and reconnect it. The check engine light should go away after that.

Thanks alot guys... I really appreciate everyone's help! I guess everything turned out to be alright. I tried to reintall the whole thing again, but that didn't work... the light stayed on. I even thought that it might be wrong the way I gapped the plugs, but I guess "it wasn't me".
Anyways, I took the car our for a spin and went to dinner last night to test out the new plugs. The check engine light stayed throughout the trip there but did turn itself off after I started the car after my dinner hour. I didn't really get to try detaching the battery to reset everything because i never got to see the replies until now. I'll keep that in mind tho... Thanks alot!
P.S.
Just got my WW front lip, fogs and super plasma bulb installed, but having the hardest time installing the sides... Anyway, I'll be posting up some pix as soon as it comes out.
Thanks again.

If you are talking about the sideskirts, check out the FAQ's for the body install. Maybe it will help in your case too. YOu have to slide the sideskirts forward in order to get them off.

While I can't imagine what anyone could screw up enough during a spark plug install to cause the Check Engine light to come on, it doesn't just come on like the Service Engine Soon lights on 80's GM products -- when it's lit up it means there's a real trouble code.

I did a search and followed the faq on this site about those side skirts, and it was a success taking the stock ones off. But putting the WW side skirts on... i don't know... those adhesives just don't seem to stick well. Aside from that, I think that the side skirts seemed to be twisted somehow...

So... what are you suggesting? I do other mod other than the plugs...
