Post help painting calipers

I know there are a few people on here that have done it and I need some guidance.

I'm sure it's not that hard once you get the wheel off, but what kind of paint is the best. I know there is specific paint for calipers, but is there a better brand I should look for? How many coats should I do.

What is the process for painting them, how much sanding should I do, what grit paper, etc.

Any help is appreciated- I would like to do this tomorrow.

Also, what color should I do them. My TL is silver. I was thinking red. I saw Arn2000TL's and thought they looked good.

Thanks!

I would like to know also. I have a black TL so I think I am going to paint it black also. Thanks!
BTW, I think we should call Neil (NSXNEXT) since he painted everything on his TL.

Hurry and let me know. I was thinking of it too but I read the instructions on bleeding the brake line to removing them and then making sure they are remounted correctly.

Kind of freaked me out.

You gonna do that or just tape them off?

I want to just tape them off, much easier, I WILL NOT mess with the brakes- not with the way I drive, Adam, you know how that is

My bro did it to his car and he just covered everything but the calipers with grocery bags. He applied 3 coats of high temp paint and they are still starting to chip off a bit. Make sure you clean the calipers real good though. Also, i wouldnt mess with the brakes...its not neccessary.

This is what I am going to do. I bought some high temp caliper paint that can be painted on with a brush. It also includes a large can of cleaner. I don't have to remove or mask anything, and I will apply at least 3 coats of paint per caliper. Also, do it in the shade and make sure to let it dry for at least a day. Good luck to all, I'll do it sometime next week!

Prepsol is good to clean. It's a paint thinner that gets everything off first.

Hey what kind of High temp paint did you find that can be painted on?? Can I get the brand? All I've seen here is the spray paint ones. Thanks.

I don't recall at this moment, but I'll find out if you can send me an e-mail to remind me. I can help send one over if you need it.

warning please dont take of the caliper from the brake line.....
big mistake!
i had to drain the whole brake system completely and refilled again
once you unbolt the caliper from the brake line the oil will start to slowly leak out and once it does that(drop by drop)...your brakes are not goin to be as effective as before..at least it took me a while b4 the brakes started working like new again.

Cool

It's not hard to bleed the brakes. It will take you about 30 minutes to bleed all four brakes, but you need someone to help you. It's pretty easy.

Cool

Acura3200 - I used Rust-O-Leum (Royal Blue) in the small can for my calipers. Used a small paintbrush and didn't remove one single bolt. Just taped off some parts.

Used Rust-O-Leum Hi-temp black (for BBQ grills) in the small can also (a small foam brush works good for rotor edges) for hub & rotors after I scrubbed the rust off Six months later and it still looks great - no chips or problems. Take your time and it will turn out perfectly.

Good luck! I'm going to try painting my calipers real soon too... I think I'll paint it blue to match the center cap on my rims.

BTW, do you have a day off from work today??

I quit my job about a month ago and am taking the summer off to do the things I haven't had time for. I'll probably look for a new job near the end of August.

I have a black Monte Carlo and I painted my calipers a green color. I put a plastic bacg around my disk and taped it around the caliper. I then taped up all the surrounding with blue painters tape. I then used a wire brush to clean off my caliper. Then I painted the caliper with white primer out of a spray can. I then put approx. 3 layers of the green (engine heat) paint on the caliper and let it dry. I bought the paitn at PepBoys (or Strauss). It came out good. There was a little sliver on the disc but it came off right away. Good luck! Let us know how it came out.
