Help! Need Code to unlock Navigation
Can anyone help me? I purchased 2 Navi units as-is and I can't get the codes to make them work. I saw a post before where someone had offered to find the code for someone, but I can't find the thread.
Any help is appriciated.
Thanks

are they all going into the same car? what year navi drive are they from? you'll need the serial number.... take that number and go to the nearest acura dealer, they'll give you the code
got 2 just in case
Since I had to buy these as-is, I got 2 just in case one did not work. Both of them might not work. Without the code I can't check. I don't have the official documentation that the dealer wants from an authorized reseller, so I can't get the code from them.
My local dealer has not been helpful at all. I tried replacing the hard drive and they said they did not have the equipment to reprogram the replacement hard drive. That's why I decided on the upgrade to DVD.
I even tried asking local Acura owners to borrow their drive to copy it and no one was willing to let me.
I'm 0 for 3.

The whole idea of the radio-nav unit security code is to cut down on theft
To be safe- you can ask you local police dept to run the serial # if any doubt
then:
If you take the unit itself- or make a xerox copy of the back with the serial number- then go to the parts dept of acura dealer and they can look it up
leave out most of the story- just say you replaced the car battery and there was no code written down anywhere for it--- what! its not original to the car- wow- can you still help me?- thanks!!
bringing donuts in the morning can make this happen easier

You need to update the cd every few years anyway
-copying, besides being illegal- its a pain to do- computer geeks with double something know how to...
The hard drive was replaced in my car and the same old disc was installed and it ran.
When I put in the updated disc recently- it was just insert- turn on key and it boots right up, no code required ~oddly enough

Did the units come with dvd-
the color and version number is how they know what year and model each unit is supposed to be in, and they make more $ with more versions of the software
You can look it up on acura.com buy navi dvd

The disc I have is 2.40 the latest available. It has a system update (not sure of the version number ) and a software update. The system update happens automatic once power is applied to the unit. This did not require the CODE to happen. It asks for the code after it performs the update and reboots.
I found inside the unit there is a lithium battery. It would make sense that this keeps the eeprom memory if the unit is unplugged from the car. As long as the unit is in the car and the battery is connected the unit would not need this backup battery, but what happens when this battery goes dead?
What information is stored in that eeprom? It looks like the system programming is stored on a flash chip that would not lose it's programming if the power was cut, but EEproms are different.
Eeproms have a part that is kept when power is pulled and a part that is not.
In a computer the settings for the system board, etc. are cleared when power is cut, but the tags, like DATE, TIME, are not and can not be cleared. Just the data in those fields is cleared.
It would be great to know what data is stored in that eeprom. I did not see anywhere to attach a JTAG interface. The two diagnostic pins may be used as a simple I/O port.
Does anyone know what is hooked to those 2 diagnostic pins or where they go?
I wonder if they hook to the computer. I don't know how closely designed the hard drive units are to the DVD units.
Once I get the DVD unit working I'm going to pull the hard drive unit apart and see what I can learn from it. Hopefully I will come up with some useful information for future users to save them some time and money.
