My car fax report has "transmission serviced" about 20k miles ago. Does this mean my 2002 TL-S transmission was replaced or rebuilt? I wasn't able to get the car history from the seller. The car has 96,000 miles on it and I am concerned about how long the tranny will last. I'm taking it in to the shop to get the brake pads replaced and having a multipoint inspection done on it. Are they any maintenance items I should be taking care of around now. I'm particularly concerned about the timing belt and the Err1 code on the cd changer. It won't let me insert any cds.

give them your VIN

ask them about the vehicle history and the transmission see if it's been replaced.

if it says the dealer did trans service- thats a 3 qt ATF oil change- thats all

the 800 number can tell you if the trans was replaced
That accident and later steering inspection needs further investigation

the big service, timing belt, water pump, valve adjust, is coming up at 105- thats 1400$

If the rotors are stock they will warp again easily if resurfaced/cut

Have a read thru the thread titles for your other things to know- see other new member threads for all the acura registration places and free owner book if needed

Error code on cd- will it not play radio either??
When the battery dies (often from sitting on dealer lot) the radio security system locks it
requires 4 digit code to make it work again- see threads on that
Otherwise see threads on optional radio systems
Nav has a 5 digit security code.. but doesnt lock immediatly like the radio, but will lock when you are working on the car with battery disconnected

Hey guys

I called up Acura and the old servicing dealer. Acura said all they could tell me for privacy reasons is that some sort of servicing related to the transmission recall was performed on 1/31/2005. I later got a hold of the service manager from the car's old dealership and was told that the transmission was replaced October 2007 at 80,019 miles. I was wondering how Acura goes about transmission replacements. Does Acura handout a new/remanufactured transmission and do the new transmissions have the engineering updates to prevent overheating? It’s been 15,000 miles since the replacement. I’m going to get the fluid changed and am hoping the transmission will last. It shifts good so far.

very very strange that acura would not tell you about the car-
Did you register as the new owner with them? you are entitled to everything they know about the car
the 05 service was the oil jet install- the recall
carfax picked the 07 swap as a service?-

If the dealer says the trans was replaced in 07- strange acura doesnt know about it- or you got a lousy person on the phone- try again
Confirm by looking under car at trans bolts- the heads are painted blue on replacement units
A few places across the country have contracts to do acuras rebuilds
Acura supplies the post 05 ~new~ trans case design, and the shop uses good used parts and some new parts- the updated better clutches and torque convertor etc
It arrives on a pallet and gets bolted in
Your old one goes on the pallet for return to the rebuilder shop -to be stripped and made into more trans units

I did register as the owner. I think the agent I got was confused about their policies and took not revealing who the past owners were to mean not giving me the car's history. Great tip on the blue transmission bolts.
