Unhappy Help! Engine pinging!

Had Comptech headers for about a year now. Have noticed pinging when accelerating for the last several months. Does not even have to be hard acceleration. My local mechanic says it may be the timing and wants me to bring the car in to be checked out. I am hesitant to take this problem to the Acura dealership as my car has the headers on it (warranty stuff and all). If it comes down to it I will put the OEM exhaust manifold and piping back on as I understand that pinging(or premature detonation in the cylinders) can be harmful to the engine. Any suggestions.

Thanks

What kind of gas have you been using? I know that people who have put in less then 91 octane have reported pinging.

BTW.. if you're dealer is even 1/2 way cool you shouldn't have problems by having the headers as they shouldn't really be related to your problem... in which case you're safe.... Have the local guy check it out then make your move.

Take the car in. They shouldn't deny warranty service because of them. It's a basic, reversible mod.

Are you sure it's pinging? A very small leak on the headers near the heads can emit a lot of valve noise, which some people confuse with pinging.

I thought there were a batch of Comptech headers that made some ping noise or something?

Actually you're right... I remember that too. I believe it was the first few batches of the headers that had problems.....

so what should I do? I e-mailed comptech and they didn't reply. I get a busy signal when I try to call them? Are they busy?
