Congratulations on buying the 1999 TL!
I bought one a few months back and I still have a lot to learn about it. And this is the place to find out about it.
The OEM CD players in the 1999 TLs are sometimes tempermental. I sometimes get long delays between tracks also.
You will also run into problems if you try to play CD-Rs.

Yeah, I have the same car and it played one burned CD that was made in the 90s. So as you can imagine, it was definitely a low-speed disk. I finally got sick of it and just got a Pioneer put in a few months ago. I was all hung up on not wanting an after-market cd player messing up the appearance of my console. Now I'm like, whatever!!!! I can play so much music now that I'm perfectly content. I should've replaced the factory cd player a loooong time ago!

burn speed doesnt matter. i've burned at 40x and 48x w no probs. its the cd-r's quality that matters. fujifilm and sony work for me although fujifilm is a cheap cdr it gets the job done. its not gonna b perfect... takes a while for cd to play and change tracks but its better than nothing. jes get blitzsafe like me
