HELP!!! 99 TL Stalls when put in gear
Today when I was getting ready to go to work I went to start the car and it hesitated to start but ended up turning over. When I put the car in reverse to back it I heard a thump and then it stalled. I tried again and it did the same thing. Waited about 15 minutes tried to turn key everything electrical turned on but wouldn't turn. All I heard was a buzzing noise when trying to turn key.
Does anybody knwo what this could be or has this happened to anyone!! Please help.

have you had the EGR port cleaned out? very good chance it is clogged up. I clean mine out every 30k miles and each time it is nearly clogged up
PM me if you need more information or instructions
other than that does it all drive good when it gets going? maybe unhook your battery for 15 minutes then try again - to clear out all computer info

99s need the egr port system cleaned frequently- other years every 75kmiles
lets go back to where it was hard to start
Can you jumpstart the car?
if so drive to parts store and get the battery and charging system tested - its free
they may need to charge your battery before testing- no fee there either
you can take just the battery itself in for testing too
Is batt more than 3-4 years old? and not an optima or other high life battery?
expect failure
if it was really low, cranking took away its last amps, then you push the brakes on= lights= more amp draw at idle rpm (no charging power from alternator at idle)
shift into R and some more power is needed to operate selenoids to shift trans,,,
all that can make it stop running
thats why its best to take batt to store for charge and testing, rather than jump start a dead batt in the TL
all the electronics are hyper sensative to voltage and will give false signals

Cel was on had my dads mechanic friend check it and said it was a transmission sensor or switch code. I know my shift solenoid wires were loose but I got it towed to a shop and waiting for tomorrow to see which switch or sensor it is. Hopefully its the solenoid. Ok let you guys know what they say tomorrow.

For the loud thump noise I would fix those tranny wires. (Probably should have been fixed a LONG time ago, lol, if they're cut, SOLDER them. I dislike but connectors. They have a very good chance of causing high resistance over time.
The buzzing, it's heard in the steering column? I think I remember hearing that once can't remember if it was the ignition electrical switch, or power supply like the battery problems.

Yes from the steering column. Not sure what the code is but will know shortly. Mechanic is looking at it now just waiting for a call. Hoping its an easy fix that I can repair myself.
