Question Help! 01 or 02 TL?

Here my dilemma:

I got a chance for getting a 2001 TL w/o NAV for $34000CDN (about $22000US) or a 2002 TL w/o NAV for $37000CDN (about $24000US).

Both are brand new and less than 30 miles on it.

Is the 2002 that much of a difference in ride, power or SS (just TL not TL-S) for me to flip the extra $2000 for 2002?

Thx for your input

the only differences in the 01 and 02 are the 02's come with seat memory, six disc in dash changer, different tail lights, and different wheels, and a different style remote for keyless entry

Ask yourself... which TL looks better.

Get the 2001 TL and with the extra $2000, you can get the navi with it. OR

But if you don't want navi and have the money to spend, then I would definitely go for the 2002 TL.

Navi is not an option in Canada. But my question is more around the mechanical upgrades from 2001 to 2002.

Does it turn better, ride better, shift faster, quieter or just plain cosmetic changes.

In terms of performace, I think 02 TL has the upper hand. The difference should not be much due to the fact that hard-core performace seekers can buy the TL-S. Anyways, I think the 01 looks better, espicially with mods. If you are not getting the TL-S, than go with 01TL.

I'd go for the 2002. For the extra $2,000 you have a newer model year. I just bought my 2001 3 months ago & I'm sure the value has decreased dramatically with the new model out. Just my 2 cents.

Xtrema,

I have to agree with TL Goddess. Go with the 02. The price they are quoting you isn't bad for a newer year with all the enhancements. I got mine back in Dec and I wish I could have waited for the 02 to come out. Don't get me wrong, I love my car but if I only knew about the TL-S, I would have gotten it.

If you go with the 02, you will not have the itch to get new tail lights ($340), 6-disc in dash cd changer ($650), Memory seats ($$$?), and most noticably the foglights(more $$$)! The OEM fogs are something the 99-01 owners have wanted for a long time and it comes standard in the 02.

here is a little reminder for you.

I agree, the extra money your gonna spend on modding your 2001 TL would equal or surpass the 2000 you are trying to save by buying the 2001, so I say go for the 2002...

Go for 2002, unless you can knock off another 2000 - 2500 off the $34,000 MSRP for '01...

I really would go for 2002 though....

For 2K I would also have to go for the 02. Between the added features and resale value, 2K is a good deal, for 3500 to 4K I would go for the 01. MPO

You'll also find that the '02 will have some changes that seem cosmetic, but actually are there to improve something. Many changes were made to improve wind and road noise, and other complaints from the earlier models. Remember, the Japanese love continuous improvement. Take both cars for a test drive and pay particular attention to items like squeak, rattle, wind noise, road noise, audio reception, fit and finish. If you can't tell the difference, and if you don't have a strong preference for the exterior styling differences, then save your money. You'll need it as gas prices go through the roof this summer!
