Hello all

Hello guys I am new here.

I am planning of purchasing an Acura TL Type-2 2000 model with 120k. I would like to ask the public what things should I look for when checking it out. What things tend to fail on this model. What conditions should I see from it. Should I pull the trigger or stay way? If I go ahead and get the vehicle what things should I look for in the future so It will last some time.

Any honest advice would be highly appreciated.

Thanks

Welcome to the board. If you are referring to the 2nd generation TL Type-S the first year for that model is 2002.

What you mean 3g TL? My budget is 3500k .

I might need to double check again with the seller. He is listing the car as Acura TL model 2000 Type-S

Thanks

Okay so it is a good price? Do i need to look into something prior to get it? Should I stay away? Tranny issues are possible?

Thanks

if the 105kmile service with timing belt and water pump had been done- at $1000-1500 - it would be mentioned
If the trans had been replaced under special warranty -before 109kmiles
thats something a seller usually mentions as its worth 5 grand!

My guess it this thing has been beat and needs lots of work soon and some right now
break a timing belt and lose the engine! its your new anchor at that point
trans goes- its 1500 to 2500 to repair
you can install a type S engine and 6 speed manual trans in an 00
if you have several grand extra laying around

do yourself a favor and look at accords, certain years have good trans
and are good overall -cheap to operate and maintain
even some saturns are good, ck online for years and models to avoid and they need timing chain done- same as a tbelt needs replacement,, but many postpone or dont know

the TL will break your wallet if you have limited budget, and no extra waiting for that rainy day

3 grand is not much to work with but look in our used car link--that members only posting
never know what you find,,a good kia,,
all you need is a basic car to last 2-3 years? then replace it with a nicer car

the 99-01 were known as TL-P

type S added improved intake manifold, 35 hp, better seats etc
the sport package

I believe 99 has 4 speed transmission which has less known issues but it will still need timing belt service since it has 132k miles.

as if someone puts the money of the 105 into the car then sells it
thats something you mention in ad--expensive major service done
Most of the ones with 120+ all need the 105 done asap~
owner found out dealer price 2000$ and sold the car!

note it will need all new hoses, belt tensioners etc with the 105
and adjust valves (more hours of labor) and clean egr system

sorry to say, unless you are a good diy person with quality tools and a buddy to help,
plus the spare change to buy all the parts (105, brake stuff, all new fluids)....
any gen2 TL is not a good invesment at this point

Much as we all love ours, would be hard pressed to pick up another one today-
knowing what we know of its resale value and the maitenance a 100,000 mile car needs

3G tl is out for $3500 and I would not get anything older than 2006 on those cars....

Well I end up getting the 99 a bit cheaper. I am very happy since the owners have done all Acura services till recently. the car is in pristine condition. . heck looks in amazing shape even comparing it to my systers Honda Accord from 2008. Since I dont do too much motoring I only needed to go to work and probably do some errans I think I can maintain it. I think the car can last me lots well taken care of. Right now im very happy I will report any incidents if any arise....

thanks all
