Heavy/stiff gas pedal 03' TL?

Hello all, im new to the forums. Ive been having to push harder than usual on the gas pedal to accelerate. The car isnt slow at all, its just a super stiff gas pedal. I researched some things related to my problem. Some people say it might be carbon buildup in the throttle body. I got the car maybe 2 1/2 weeks ago with 162k miles.

+1 Carbon Build up! pretty common with heavy miles on the odo..

Remove TB carefully clean with CARB CLEANER making sure not to soak the TPS or the MAP sensor.. Also you can do the IACV while your there and it will make your sticky/hard gas pedal go away..

If you are going to do that, you should do the whole shebang and clean out your EGR as well.
SOOOOO worth doing it.

It's carbon build up inside the throttle body walls where it makes contact with the plate. Just spray it down with carb cleaner several times and clean both with a rag, especially around the rim of the plate and its hinges. Then put a little dab of oil on the hinges to lubricate them. Pedal is just like new again!

The EGR system on these cars gets can get clogged up and need cleaning. Generally about the same time the throttle body needs to be cleaned out. Below is a link to all sorts of DIY instructions, including EGR.

Yeah, as Seabright suggested....... a little cleaning will go along ways to helping our cars to run better.

Read up and search on the common problems and check the site's "DIY" sticky for tips on all sorts of general PM stuff to optimize your TL. Good luck, enjoy the TL !!!!

One more thing, I have been experiencing hard shifts from 2nd to 3rd and from 3rd down to second. And within those gears, letting go of the throttle causes me to slow down as if I were engine braking. I'm not in high rpms or anything either.

I would change the tranny fluid and check/clean out on those pesky solenoids
