Headlight Theft Concerns

Guys,

I know that our 03 Headlights are a big theft item (from all i hear and read). Is there any known way to better secure the lights into the frame so they are not easy to steal?

Besides our known tranmission issues, this is the one thing that freaks me out parking all over the NYC area. Any advice would be welcomed.

Also as a side question, does the 04+ had the same theft issue?

They say to back into parking spaces so that it will be more obvious that someone is stealing your lights vs parking against a wall where people can hide and crouch low while jackin your sh!t. The more exposed a thief is, the most likely they will move to an easier target.

Did you read my post??? The headlights are PLASTIC. they get in with a prybar (damaging hood and fenders) and pry them out. Its not hard to break plastic. The harder you attach them, the more damage to the car will insue with them trying to get them offWhat would help is if the balasts were mounted on the firewall and after awhile theives would know its not a complete package steeling them and it wouldnt be as common. BUT they arent, and even if you were to mount them like that they dont know it.. All you can do is quit worrying about it and go on.

fsttyms1,

No need to get upset . When i replied Yeah thats what i vbeen trying to do, i was talking to the other guy who said keep the headlights in plainview.

When i posted about the locks below that comment, i did read your post but was hoping that there might be a way to attack them still even though they are plastic. But i guess your right, i just need to do my best in parking it safe.

Thanks for the feedback

Safest place is park in a indoor garage. My neighbor's 03 Maxima got his headlights stolen right outside his house. The 99-03 models and the 02-03 maximas are prime targets for headlights being stolen.

Why are the 04+ not targeted as much? (or does it just seem that way?)

Not sure if that is going to make any sense but you could spend some $ and install alarm for the headlights, like a wire attached to headlight or something that nature, if some1 try to take out the headlight alarm would go off.

How about just an alarm period with a shock sensor.

Problem is is most people are amune to alarms nowdays and dont care if they hear one going off. (unless its in your own driveway and you hear it)

mine were stolen twice and i live in brooklyn. once in bayridge and once in parkslope. after the second time i got the prestige alarm with shock sensor, motion sensor, autostart and a reciever that shows when the alarm goes off wich looks like a little phone. and plus i keep it locked up in a fenced driveway.

how much would it cost to replace the HID bulbs (a pair)? the previous owner of the car had one of his HID's stolen..so he only replaced one. now one seems to be a little more pinkish than the other.

i want to replace both bulbs with a reliable brand that wont burn out in like a month.
what do you guys reccommend. do i need like a whole new HID kit (converter or what not) or can i use the existing one and just put in new bulbs.

If that is thae case, one reason might be that there are a ton more of the 1999-2003 TLs on the road and that makes for a bigger market.
