headlight question

i bought my 01 tl used in the past october relatively cheap because there was some known damage history to it. 1 being the infamous stolen headlights. the previous owner did get it fixed and the hood/fenders do align decently but the headlight housing was replaced with halogens. i bought an aftermarket HID plug n play kit but its not nearly as nice as the stock xenons. i never thought much about it but recently i was thiking to myself why woudl they even make halogen housings as replacements? if im not mistaken the OEM headlight housgsins have the bulb ballasts and ignitors in teh same housing? im assuming what i have in my car is just regular halogen housings. can anybody shed some light on this? i want to purchase the oem xenons if anyone can point me in the right direction

I believe the H7 bulbs can be modified to fit in the OEM D2R housing. Its either H7 or H4. What i can think of your situation is this that the previous owner didnt bother buying the ballasts etc for the new headlights, who can blame him since through a dealer that would set you back hundreds of dollars. Your headlights are most likely HID headlights but are altered to fit a halogen bulbs.

Your best bet would be to open see if the alteration is permanent or not, if not then you can get yourself a pair of ballasts and D2R bulbs and run HIDs in the headlights rather than buying a kit for a housing that indeed is already made to take D2R bulbs.

Oh by the way pictures would help in assessing your situation better.
