I'm not sure if headers in jersey will void inspection but in california, only comptech headers will pass smog and inspection because they're certified by the California Air and Resources Board (CARB). you might be able to get by with it.

What brand headers do you have? Do you know if your state requires CARB certification on certain modifications?

They won't void anything as long as they pass emissions. Anything with CARB on it is better than any other states emmisions standards anyhow. If some mechanic told you that, go elsewhere for inspection he doesn't know what he's talking about unless NJ is super strict, but I doubt since all the cars with headers in jersey would fail inspection.

Jersey just cares that you pass inspection, CARB cert or not. They don't even do the tailpipe test anymore. They just hook up to the ODBII connector and see if the car has thrown a CEL recently.
