Question headers...how much more hp. will they give me?

I have a 2002 TL-S and I'm thinking of makeing the purchase of the Comptec headers. I was wondering how much more power I'll get out of them? That and I would love to hear about any other sugestions.

Thumbs up

There is much speculation about how much extra HP you get from the headers. The numbers range from 20-35, but mostly it seems to be "around 30".

I can attest that they make a fairly substantial difference, but mostly when the VTECH kicks in. The car seems to try and jump out of its' skin when the RPMs go over 4K.

They are a bit pricey, but they pack a good punch, and they do not add much noise to the accelleration.

I think they are worth it, others do not.

30 hp just from headers......I'll believe that when i see it. By the way you spell "VTECH" I'd say you're getting another 10 hp from that sticker you probably have.....

bashing other respectable members here isn't gonna bring you anywhere. he has the headers and he see it. i don't have the headers but from what i have read and seen, the comptech headers DO bring 30hp.

and if you are so fond of picking on people's spelling, good for you, you just did a great job ruining yourself here. at least i know he spelled vtec wrong but i didn't say anything, coz' a lot of times i spell it wrongly as "fvcker" too....

i dont belive the headers give 30hp to the wheels.... i do think they give 30hp at the crank. Since all i got on my dyno with the headers was 226hp at the wheels.

Header Install Question...

Just wondering if anyone had the dealer do the install and how much they charged? How long should a service department spend on an install? Thanks

Comptech claims 32hp increase with the headers on the type S at I belive 6.5k RPMS. Under 5k rpms there is really no gain.

Here you go nada you newbie b!tch. The proof is below, 29.6hp at the wheels, and by the way you won't get anything out of this forum by being a d!ck.

Yo VTECVT --

I just talked to a shop down hear in Roanoke about a header installation -- Traffic Jamz (or maybe Jams) on Brambleton Ave. He hadn't done a TL-S but had just done a S2000 w/ Comptech headers. Labor for that ended up being about $200 so he said maybe double that for the Type S (V6 = 2 sets of headers to install). I don't know if that's a lot or not but I'm sure he would negotiate. They seemed pretty reasonable. He did mention that he had installed them on his own 3.0 CL (older V6) so I think he would know what he's doing.

Also, they can pretty much do any performance upgrade. I asked about new springs for my TL-S -- $299 for Comptechs and another $150+- for labor. He also said he'd negotiate the price of the springs if I found them cheaper somewhere else.

I don't think you'll have much luck having Duncan do any performance upgrades. Not to mention, I wouldn't trust them to do the work. I do know that Crown in Richmond does a lot of Comptech upgrades so you may want to give them a call to compare prices. Also, you can p.m. Road Rage (a former TLS owner here on the board) to ask him about who to talk to at Crown. His TL-S had the full Comptech package so he could be very helpful.

Finally, what do you think about the new Mr. Vick? Personally, I can't wait! Go Hokies.

That does not look like the dyno of comptech headers, but I can't argue much. Just curious if it actually is? or something else or photoshop.

Compare with comptech's dyno. http://www.comptechusa.com/images/dyno/2000CLSplot.pdf

That dyno looks more like a RES dyno.

don't bother going to duncan in roanoke. i called them the other day to get a quote for spring installation. they said that they will never do any after market installs. the story they gave me was that they fvcked up an nsx and had to replace the car.
so bottom line don't waste your time with duncan

If I remember correctly, this dyno belongs to "Mike" from the CL forum. And yes, it's before/after header install.

Given the power gain you can FEEL from 5000+, I'd say the header added 25 or more horsepower (on a Type S). The Comptech design is pretty good, but it also helps that the stock piece is total CRAP.

I agree w/ you 100%! Everytime a friend of mine has taken his in for something to be fixed (minor recall stuff) they break something else, order the replacement for it, have him leave the car for the day, find out they ordered the wrong replacement part, have him pick up car, order the right part, tell him to leave the car again, replace broken part, break something else, repeat cycle.

This sounds like a joke, but it isn't. I've been lucky enough not to have problems like this (I get tranny failures instead). When they did the work for the seatbelt recall, they forgot to install all the bolts to reattach the seat to the floor. Only one bolt on the front was installed.

I dont see why everyone uses Mikes dyno for everything. hes the ONLY person to get those high numbers. I know at least 4 other people who have dynoed their car with headers and dont get anywhere close to those numbers. Hell i even dynoed my car, and didnt get anwhere near those numbers.

What we need is to have Mike find a new place to dyno, and do it again. IMO

Thanks for assuring me bro. When I test drove your car with the headers, I felt a gain, but to be honest with you, not nearly 25hp at the wheels. I did feel a 5k+ rpm boost.

The gains on that dyno under 5k RPMs is what is bugging me. I don't know, I personally don't believe that dyno. For further prove I have seen 2 other dynos that the headers do not come close to 10hp at the wheels, including Crzy Acura's dyno.

Do you know how much it would cost to dyno it again? It would cost a good $600, you would have to uninstall the headers.

I lost about 5 tenths at the track only with headers and exhaust. This seems inline with the gains. I'm happy with them, thats for sure.

Unless you stole it from my driveway then returned it, didn't you only drive it around the block at Tim's house? You can't really get a feel for the power unless you experience the pull in 2nd or 3rd gear.

Is the hp gain results from header alone, or from header and exhaust together ? The maximum benefit of a header cannot be felt unless the exhaust pipes and muffler are less restrictive.

I don't need a race track, to get a feel for the power :p Won't argue with you, but you have to let me test drive it a little more. Next meet OK.

10Hp? I doubt it. Although mike's dyno is not the norm, 10hp total BS.
