Headers and gas mileage

I was told by a friend who was a mechanic that putting headers on will actually increase gas mileage. Is this true? Has anyone noticed that?

Probably, since putting a header will increase your high end hp and probably loose low end.

Is the low end power loss that noticable? I thought headers would increase both. Does air intake help take care of that? Looking to do both, but not if it isn't that noticeable and both high end and low end.

It's not really that noticeable. As far as gas mileage...yea mods increase gas mileage because everything in the engine flows smoother, but that's only if you don't have a lead foot and can keep your driving style "calm".

umm how would headers reduce low end torque? unless your getting the stepped headers... and air intakes only give you high end hp
