Is there any diifrence between the OBX headers and the Comptech ones? Besides about $800.

From what I've heard, the OBX headers are a knockoff of the older design Comptech headers. They copied the design and tried to undercut Comptech by cutting the price. I just bought and installed Comptech headers on my 2000 TL and I must say that the throttle responsiveness is definitely better. It really starts to pull when you rev over 4500 rpm. But when I was considering which header to buy, a lot of places I called tried to steer me away from OBX. They told me that they were known for cheap quality (weld marks, bad alignment, etc). Their stainless header isn't even really stainless; it's just galvanized steel, which means it could still rust from the inside out. Comptech's on the other hand is a true stainless steel part. They are certainly the most beautiful header's I've ever seen.

A few of the guys on the board (e.g kman156??) have installed OBX headers on their car and to my knowledge have not had any problems so far. But keep in mind that they just installed them (< 1 month) so I would be interested to see if anything happens to them in the long term.

Thank you for the response. Where did you get your headers?

There have been some guys with problems with the obx and some don't. It is cheaper for a reason.

Do a search on OBX headers...there are a lot of posts on them. From there you will find the good and the bad. From what I have read, there really isn't enough of a reason to justify spending $800 more for Comptech over OBX.

I got my headers from this site. Right now there isn't any definite proof that Comptech is better than OBX. However, I didn't want to take the chance with a brand new product that doesn't have a long standing reputation and the only things I've heard from distributors about them are negative. I haven't heard any negative with Comptech's headers (except for the price). So if you can wait, you can see if anyone has problems with the OBX headers.

I'm sure distributors push Comptech over OBX because they stand to make more money from selling the higer priced item.
