Head Unit ????????

I have a 99 tl with a stock sound system and I'm tired of not being able to play cdr's or mp3 cd's. I know if I put in a aftermarket head unit I will loose the sub sound, and the navi voice. If I put in a Alpine CDA-9885 will I get decent bass from the 4 door speakers alone???? also, for those that already have a aftermarket HU with stock navi, can u still comfortably use the navi without voice??

there is a instructional video on how to use the stock sub with an aftermarket head unit. i suggest you get a headunit that allows you to set a high and low pass for the door speakers/sub, that way you wont have to listen to distortion. i dont have a navi, but i would beleive that the navi has an RCA output that can be connected to your aftermarket head unit via an AUX port; of course this will not yield instructions while you have a cd playing.

another option would be to get the 02-03 six disk radio that DOES play mp3's and shit. hope this helps

PS: lose the stock sub and get an amp and a REAL sub

Replace it all with a double din that has Navi or don't do it at all. I replaced everything and the sound blows the factory system out of the water in every way shape and form.

Another option is to install one of the factory 6-disc units from a 2002-2003 TL. These will play CD-Rs without a problem.

That's what I did with my 1999 TL. I also installed a BlitzSafe adapter for hooking up an iPod or other MP3 player.

Once I had an iPod hooked up, I found that I hardly play CDs anymore. Other forum members have mentioned this also.

Along those lines, you could just buy the BlitzSafe adapter for your current radio and see if that works for you.

since you were going to spend the money anyways, just go with the alpine deck.

Yes, you're good to go. And the Blitzsafe link also shows that it's compatible with a 1999 TL.

Yes, the BlitzSafe/iPod combo works out great in the TL.

And, for future reference, you can maintain the navigation voice with an aftermarket head unit. There's a thread describing how to do that somewhere. (I think it requires some wiring.)

yea but i need the sub to still work too and i dont wanna deal with all that wireing anyway. with the BlitzSafe/iPod route I can keep everything working with no extra effort and enjoy all the great quality music I have without running to the store to pick up a retail copy just so my bose cd player can read it

Yeah, I don't think the 02-03 will play mp3 burned to a CD-R. It will, however, play the music cds made on a cd-r....

02-03 TL 6 CD changer radio's get jammed alot and have err issues, I dont want to deal with stuff like that while I'm on the road. And I've decided to get the USA Spec PA11-HON iPod Interface instead of the BlitzSafe one; http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Produ...A11-HON&tp=120
