I think we have to make one thing straight here......
BLEXV6 is talking about the A/C Evaporator box located inside the dash.... and looks like BlueTL & preludeshfan are talking about air filter box.
Which one????

A/C Filter
There is a part called the A/C filter (not the air filter), and Acura recommends replacement at 30,000 miles. I had never heard of the part before, but I just had the 30k maintenance done, and the dealer made the change.

Its cause the TL has a micron air filter so all air that comes in is 'fresh'. Micron air filters (if you own a HEPA you know this) get dirty very quickly and must be changed. Hence the 30k change interval...

I changed mine on my Accord V6. And yes, it's indeed a pain in the butt. It requires you to remove a WHOLE BUNCH OF STUFF. The A/C filters are located right behind the glove box. You have to remove:
- passenger side fuse cover -> easy
- center console lower panel, in order to get to the one screw that holds the passenger side lower console panel
- passenger side lower console panel -> easy, but be VERY CAREFUL or you'll break the plastic tabs or lose the metal clips that clip them into place. Honda admitted to me that they break these tabs ALL THE TIME.
- glove box cover, glove box -> pain in the ass
- a couple reinforce rails after all that is removed
Changing the filters take not more than 30 seconds! But removing all that stuff carefully took me at least 30 minutes or more. The filters get very dirty fast! You will need two filters for Accord, it's probably the same for TL or TL-S.

I had the 2 A/C filters changed at the dealership last month.
The dealer charges about $75 for labor & $26.00 for the parts.
I have allergies so I got mine changed during the 15K service but the car is almost 2yrs old. When I got the car back from the dealership I could tell the change with the new filters. This is like when I change the HEPA filter on my vacuume cleaner you get that clean fresh smell.

Step by Step faq to changing AC filter anywhere?
Folks,
Pls someone verify if the below quoted msg i found here is the way to go about changing our TL's AC filter element behind the glove box. I almost broke a damned plastic tab holding the box on trying to figure it out. What screws should we be taking out here? Thanks in advance for any tips and help.

I don't have the Helms manual, but I think it's pretty simple. The hard part has to be removing the glove box.
I also recall that there's a plastic shield behind the glove box with tabs that must be broken off to access the filters. Once you've replaced the filter, you need to reinsert the plastic piece rotated 90 degrees to its original orientation so that it will stay put.

open the glove box. on the right side you will see a shock holding the golve box in place, move the screw
see those tabs in each top corner of the box that prevent it from falling forward? remove those by putting pressure on the back side of them (this is a little hard the first time)
remove 2 screws at the bottom corners on the outside of the glove box (one in each corner)
the box should come out.
cut the tabs (i think theyre labeled) for the square shaped plastic. replace the filters. put it all back together
i think i covered everthing

Thanks for all the help guys. With your instructions, i was able to change the 2 AC filters today. Man...they were blacker than i thought they'd be for sure, and my car only has a little under 27000km!
Patrick, anytime, let me know and we can do yours. Just get two AC filters from Acura first. They cost $18 each at Richmond Acura.

Power,
"Man cannot live by wanton noodle soup alone"...but..yeah, sure, no problem, man. We'll have a mini AC filter meet and we can do this. I had to do everything twice cuz i forgot to put this black plastic strip back in.

Will the warranty replace the air filter for you? How do you know when you need to change your air filter? I noticed that when for example. i put my A/C at 70 (with the A/C button on). It use to blow cold air at that degree but now it blows warm air. Is that because of the cold front coming in or do i need to change my air filter??? I have 14,000 miles on it already.
Thanks,
Thanks,

2K1,
It's not covered by warranty as it's a routine serviceable item, just like changing your air filter. My car had less than your mileage but those filters were very dirty, it also depends on how dusty your roads are of course. I don't think your AC being not cold has anything to do with the filter as the filters seem to be in front of the condenser. I think the manual states 30k miles for replacement. I did it way before that and the things were filthy. Covered in this soot and it smelled too.

What's the part number for these filters?
Based on your finding the filter black at 27000KM, I'm going to order a couple and replace the originals at 15K miles.

Jay,
This thread is actually about the air conditioner cabin filter and not the engine air filter.
But to your question, nah...most folks here would agree that you won't see much gain with the KN filter, as the casing itself is a bigger bottle neck. Do a search on "filter" and you'll see miles of threads on KN. Welcome to the board, btw!

But I will take up on your offer later. I think the best time to change them would probably be in the spring; let's get a couple TLs together and you can show us the ropes! :p

Since we are on the topic of AC filters, anyone here had a chance to clean the air vents? Dust can get the air vents dirty, and just wondering if anyone here cleaned them? I'm planning on using cotton swabs to clean the actual vent grill as they do pick up dust. But the insides - the air vent tunnel that brings in the air to your air vent on your dash - needs to be cleaned too. I think it is a little tricky to do - you need to pop off the vent grill. How is this done? Anybody understand what I'm trying to say here?

I can't believe that you guys got the AC filter and the air filter confused but it's good for some of you that know what i'm talking about , it's a 30,000 mile maintence for the car check it out at your manual if you guys ever open it up and read it, hehe .

I was just thinking... what a coincident! I was about to ask you pros from the board about how to change the A/C filter... Cus it almost drove me crazy when I was performing the 30K maintainence myself according to the owner's manual and found out that the freakin manual didn't specify the exact location of the A/C filter!!!
And then I thought... maybe some of ya pros from the board may know... and just as I thought!!! Thanks alot fo da help guys.
And that's exactly what I was thinking...
